Seeing how this thread has so many interested I thought I would update everyone on what the problem was.
P1056 is the Valvetronic Servomotor It was stuck or sluggish. A quick reprogram according to BMW and the problem is all fixed. (I hope)

Nope, woke up this morning tried to crank it, raur raur raur... raur raur raur... nothing. Road side assistance? I need a tow. A toe not a toe. my car wont crank. I need to get it to BMW to have them repair it. OK well send a toe truck. thanks...
Tow truck get here and loads up the car and says I apologize but I am missing 4th gear so it might get a little jerky. Pretty bad when the tow truck needs a tow truck. 4 hours later I am on the road in a cheap Nissan Altima. (YUCK). likely wont have the car for the weekend so I am stuck with this POC. will post as we find out what the problem is. oh and did I mention that I saw a nail in my tire when I got it on the truck? well crap
