baby got hit - input please!

had my baby 1er for a few months now and was out around town when...

i was in the center turn lane waiting to make a left into said shopping center - asshole 3series was wanting to make a left out of the shopping center - i was waiting b/c there was oncoming traffic but douche 3series pulled out anyway, stopped, then realized he was gonna get T-boned BUT I was in front of him -well I see this and move up as much as possible but DOUCHE somehow manages to still fuck up and tag the rear passenger bumper.. and i smacked the shit out of my head but the sport seats kept me safe n sound..

[note homeboy knows he fucked up b/c he copped to it and his insurance is taking full responsibility/liability w/o even waiting for the police report so at least that is straight!]

Still - I am livid that my pristine car has now been sexually assaulted and though there was no penetration [frame damage], she is scarred for life... and if/when I go to sell her... plus once the bumper comes off -

Early next week I take it to the insurance adjustor and though I already have an estimate - I want to know what everyone here thinks is a reasonable amount to ask for to compensate for depreciation now that the VIN has been marred by said accident..

Car has 25K miles and is immaculate otherwise - interior still smells brand new, no food/drink, garage kept, etc..

I am sooo pissed off that my baby got molested.... fuck other drivers

Thanks in advance -

Dude, think this as a time to get some upgrades. There is nothing you can do, the car has been hit. That tail light looks scratched, get some black lines. Get a new defuser, the bumper I don't know. It's a pain in the ass and the car is hit, but buck up, fight and get some stuff you want. I worked in insurance for years and was hit several times and always made out ahead. Fight brotha (or sister)

Sorry about that
You should take advantage of the accident to get some exterior upgrade (it costs less than OE replacement so you can easily get it covered by the insurance comapany)

Only way your getting depreciation is through diminish value and each state handles that diffrent. They might make you hire an appraiser if you dont agree to their figures.

Def hear you guys on the upgrades.. and the shop doing the repairs are close friends of mine so I at least know she will be repaired properly - i could never let a stranger touch her..

But in the end, when I go to re-sell her [maybe, if...] I am at least going to take a couple grand hit simply b/c the title/VIN is not clean and that is not on me - I guess I am gonna see how "reasonable" the adjustor seems..
I know I am a stickler about that when car shopping and I know what it is worth [to me]

So it is clear I have a major attachment issue w/ my car

And yeah this is not the first time thru the ringer [after 20 yr of driving] - each time I have come out whole/ahead enough to make up for the bullshit [w/ respect to vehicle repair] so I just want to make sure I am reasonable when I deal with dude..

The tail light isn't scratched - that is just dirt - but yeah once the thing is apart then I will really know..

Point being I am not going to eat the ~2K [my opinion] in depreciation b/c some asshole hit my car [so thinking i will see 1/2 that] - the last time [while ago] they were willing to consider this so...
- and of course I am gonna to press the issue w/ the adjustor..

SO let me put it this way - if you were looking at a BMW [for sale] that had been tagged from behind [bumper and support beam, no frame] - how much would YOU knock off the "list" price?

Usually a woman who knows about cars throw those guys off plenty so maybe a low cut top will help my cause

I found this on another thread and is worth a read for anyone ever in an accident - about diminished value and how ins. companies argue their case:

You know, I am kicking myself because a few months before I got my 1er I saw a 2005 Mercedes CLK 55 AMG for sale for $13,000 with 65,000 miles. It had a clean title but his wife got rear ended and had about $6,000 worth of repairs all fixed at Mercedes. Now that I think back, I should have jumped all over it but I was turned off by the fact that it was in an accident. That is why it was priced so low. Did it turn me off? Yes, but it shouldn't have because if a car is replaced properly, there are all new components. I like new stuff, it holds on longer than the old stuff.

Unfortunately, it's frame damage that will make a diminished value claim worth it. Otherwise, they'll just claim that all affected parts are new, so it doesn't matter.

Take lots of pictures with the bumper on and off. Keep this and the repair bill as proof. If you trade it in you'll get dinged big time (Carfax and their ilk) will make it sound like your car had a death spiral from 25000 feet and it had to be towed. You stand a better chance selling it yourself and be honest upfront. If it's 2K in damage, that isn't much these days and hopefully yours is just external stuff that's more cosmetic than structural.

If you are saying how much of an attachment you have to the car, why are you worried about selling it??

Blackline tails and a M-sport rear bumper and diffuser for you.

Also see if you can get their insurance company to cover the loss of value of your car now that it has been in an accident. I wish I had known about that when I had mine.

Looks very minor. Don't sweat it. Easy repair, and will be good as new.

because as much as i love my car - someday down the line when i do decide to sell it, i will for sure take a hit due to it having been in an accident - the insurance company needs to cover that depreciation in value..

it is called COVERING MY ASS -
