Anybody had HPFP fixed only with software update?
As in the topic, did anybody have the hpfp fixed only by updating the software and without replacing the pump itself?
This is what the dealer has done so far to me and won't go further until the car throws some fault codes. So for them everything is fine now.

Same story with my car last November. I am starting to get long cranks again and they keep getting more frequent. I will be bringing my car in on June 30th to replace the tail light seals. I hope some codes have been stored so I can get this problem resolved. My dealer's warranty manager is really good, so I hope he can intercede for me with BMW if no codes come-up.

I had the long cranks, and brought it in. They upgraded the software. Long cranks went away, but it kept going into a very low power mode. I brought it back and they put in a new HPFP this time.

N54 HPFP Full Recall?
My Service Manager, who is usually well informed, told me today that BMWNA was recalling all N54 for HPFP rplacement and that I'd be getting the recall notice soon. Even though I've never had a hiccup with my HPFP I'd welcome a newer version.

I don't think this would ever happen here in europe, plus they say (here in uk) the problem with hpfp is not that big.
Anyhow I picked up my car after they uploaded the new software and kept it for testing and it seems fine, no long cranks, no power loss etc etc. They also replaced one of my wishbones because it was bent and did a full alignment after that. I also got the new sat nav maps and paid total of £470... and all of that started with the warranty service for the fuel pump......(sigh..)

I had two long cranks in April. I immediately took car into the dealer after the second one. They confirmed that my car had thrown the 2FBF code indicating a HPFP problem. They gave me the new software and said if it started giving me trouble again to take it back in. That was ~ 1.5 months and 1,000 miles ago. No trouble so far, but will it stay that way? Obviously, some people *do* have problems despite the reprogramming. Hopefully mikeo is right and that BMW is finally about to put this issue to bed with a full recall. Despite this hiccup, though, I'm still loving the 1.... (Though I reserve the right to edit this out of my post if it turns out I'm one of those 'lucky' guys who has to have his HPFP replaced 4 times in a row.... ) |

This is how I started my weekend:
EDIT: I just heard back from the dealer that they are replacing my HPFP and low pressure sensor as well as reprogramming the car. I will get it back tomorrow. FWIW, I only had about 6 long cranks before the pumped failed in catastrophic fashion on my ride home from work on Friday. It started stuttering for power when accelerating and on the 3rd time of doing so it went right into limp mode. Luckily I was pulling into my complex. I hit my SOS button and 15min later it was on a flatbed.

I had a string of issues on my 2010 (9/09 build date). 3 different misfire events, dealer had it for a total of about 10 days, eventually their west coast regional tech supervisor came by and decided to put a pre-release version of the software on my car.
That was a little over a month ago, no misfires since then, though I still get the occasional rough idle when I first start it, and for past week I've noticed some long(ish) cranks, 1/2 second to 1 second longer than I'm used to. |

I began to get sporadic long cranks, then they started happening pretty repeatably on cold starts. I brought the car in yesterday and they have updated the software overnite and said they did not get a long crank this AM. The SA seems pretty good and said he wanted to keep it one more day; if it long cranked again he hoped to get a 943 in for me. We shall see...

What constitutes a long crank. My car usually starts right up, in say 1/2 second. The other day it took maybe 1 second, on a cold startup. Hasn't done it since. How long is a long crank, 1.5 seconds, 2 seconds, 3 seconds, longer?

Typically, if it's a long crank, your heart will feel like it's sinking into your small intestines at about the 3.5 second mark. |

If you guys enjoy the feature of tapping the blinker stalk to have it blink 3x (for changing lanes), let the dealer know ahead of time. The feature was missing when I picked up the car but they said I can come back and have it turned back on very quickly.

Are you saying the feature can no longer be turned on manually as per the manual but requires dealer intervention to be re-enabled? ianc

Didn't know we had the option to do it manually. Anyone know off the top of their head how to do it? It would save me a trip back to the dealer...

Not off the top of my head, but if you have the manual, the procedure will be outlined in it. I enabled it myself.
I thought you meant they had done away with the feature in the software update... ianc

Anyone else have a rougher idle after the update? It's not "rough" it's just not as smooth as it used to be. My buddy with a 335xi had the update and said the same thing.

It's now 2 months and 2,000 miles since I received the software update. I noticed a longer crank than usual this morning at cold start. (Interestingly, I was just moving the car around in the driveway, and so I stopped it about 20 seconds after starting. When I went to start it a second time to drive to work, it fired right up no problem.)
If it happens again, I'll bring it back to the dealer, and if they don't fix it, I'll keep bringing it back until they do. (The benefits of living within walking distance of your dealer.) Regarding the idle, it may just be my imagination, but in the last week or so, it has started to sound slightly 'rougher' than before. No vibration or anything, just the sound. |
