H8 180 install

Has anyone installed these on a 2013 135i? I just can't get the passenger side cover back on. I can't tell if there are wires or if the lux box is blocking it... looks like there is room but it just won't go back on. The teeth at the bottom of the cover won't go anywhere near close enough to the holes in the car.

Is this impossible? Am I missing something obvious or some trick? Its been ~45 minutes with zero progress. I feel like I'm putting a square peg into a round hole.

Well I got it... then realized the metal bracket had fell out at the bottom and I had to take it out all over again! Not so bad the second time... have to really push in at the bottom to get the teeth in.

Glad you got it on again.

For what it's worth, the passenger side light leaking after installing aftermarket halo bulbs is sort of like a rite of passage, a merit badge if you will. It's not that hard to get that cover back on when everything is exactly right, but it's hard to get everything exactly right...

Super common issue and to be totally honest with you I take off the entire bumper so I can just remove the lights when i work on them now. It's just so much easier and removing the bumper takes all of 5 mins on/off.

Got em both done -- 1/10 would not install again. Looks great though!

What would moisture/leaking look like - actual water inside the headlight?

It would look like adaptive headlight module failure lol

I can speak on not doing them again. When I did mine they were in the way and I got a code. I took them out and swore I'd never touch them again

Honestly I just tell everyone not to bother when they ask me. I have the H8 180's and they look great but holy fuck were they a headache to get in. Then came the moisture issues. Thankfully it finally worked out but I still get scared when I wash my car. I don't ever go to automated car washes because I'm scared I'll fry the headlight.

Yeah, it was a pain -- plus even the driver side had some control box that was completely in the way and wasn't in the regular 135i video/pics (maybe something extra on the IS).

I know I got the covers back on correctly, no jammed wires and the teeth are in. Gasket looked good too so I hope no moisture issues. Think I'm gonna stop with the auto washes altogether though -- sounds like they weren't very good for these lights even stock.

The plug behind the passenger headlight has been a concern of 135is owners so without thinking (or reading) I just assumed you were asking about that. Brain fart! lol

Duuuuuuude, I was wondering what that was! I got my 135is from carmax so I thought the PO maybe did some mods and left that extra wiring in the car because he was lazy. I didn't have that on my 135i before. So glad I popped in here so now I know what it is haha. Thanks!

But yeah that extra wiring makes a difficult job that much harder. I actually didn't have too hard a time on my 135i but on the is when I saw that I got worried. When I do my h8 this time I'm just going to unbolt that stuff to get the bulbs in.
