161s

How do you guys like the 161s? Do you think 17s do the car justice compared to 162s?

not the best, but they're pretty cool imho. since the spokes go to the edges of the wheels, actually makes them look a bit bigger than they are.

I think nothing comes close to the Styling 162 wheels.

I have - for winter tires - Styling 159s and they are ok. Happy to be taking off winter tires and putting back the 162s!

I also like the design of the Styling 156 - but they are only 16".

Agreed, IMHO if your going to keep it OEM, get 162's hands down.

There is a big difference in ride between 18" and 17" wheels/tires on the same car. I found this out on my previous E90/330i when I changed over from summer (18" 162s) to winter set-up. The ride was vastly improved with 17" Dunlop snows on 158s. Now, with my 325 XiT, I find that my car's ride is firm but acceptable with 17" Conti ProContacts on 161 wheels. I prefer the look of the 161s to the 162s which IMO are too decorative in appearance. The 161s have a more classic, sporty look and they appear larger than their 17" diameter. If you travel on mostly smooth roads, then you may find the 18" wheel/tire combo to be acceptable, but if you drive on rutted or rough pavement, the 18" combo will give you a very rough ride with severe tramlining.

162s look so much nicer. But obviously this is just my personal preference.

Interesting comments. I'm contemplating 158s for winter and 194Ms for summer when my time comes, so I would be sticking to 17" year round. How do you like the Dunlops for wet weather?

The 161's are one reason that drove me to get a 330i (with 162's)

My 161s look great in 17" size and mixed tyre widths. I couldn't be happier.

I was actually a little dissapointed in the 161's. I did upgrade to the 162's, but part of it was me not liking the 161's too much.

On the E46, the sport wheels for the 325i were a great look. They filled the fender well nicely. I feel the 161's fill the gap like the non-sport wheels of the E46 did. They look small, and could be improved.

I think the sport offerings for 325/330 should be 18's standard for 325 and 19's for 330. But thats just me...

I think that 162s look much nicer and they're very easy to clean.

I totally agree with the E46 comments. The 325 sport package used to have pretty nice looking 17's...

probably didn't do 19's because there's no RFT in 19 inch...would have been nice on the 330 though

When I was looking at the photos, the 162s looked so good and beat anything else hands down. But the day when I picked up my car, I saw the 161 and 162 next to each other, for the first time in person, I actually liked the 161 better. 162 feels a little too aggressive for me, while the 161 is more classic and matches the mystic blue very well, which is not an aggressive color anyway.

maybe I'm biased, everyone loves his/her own car.

I'll take those 17" 161s over those 18" 162s anytime.
162 IMHO looks too pretty to do any serious intimidation.

EDITED: 161 to 162s

anyway as someone else said, to each his own. for me it just didn't look right to have the other wheels. The non-ZSP wheels on either car (325i or 330i) just looked silly to me too. Oh well.

The non-sp 330 looks OK, but the 16''s on non-sp 325 do look too small. hell even a Honda civic comes with 17'' standard nowadays.

I love the nice ride yet good performance I get with my 161's, especially after I took out the 2-3 psi of extra air that was in them from the dealer.
I also like the classy yet agressive looks of them. IMO.

I also plan on taking advantage of the great buyers market for the 161's and pick my self up another set when the $ is just right.
After I burn up the one's I have in Autocross, I'll have some winter tires mounted on my current wheels, and move to the next set.
