Cip's Build/Photo Thread

Yeah I already made one of these awhile back but I didn't do a really good job at it. So while I could go back and edit it I figure I would just add another. People like pictures anyway right? I am planning for this to be a track car but the build is going to be pretty slow since the wife and I have a kid on the way. If you want a full list of mods check out my Wheelwell at https://wheelwell.com/joe-cipriani-iii.

PS I am new with the whole DSLR thing so my editing is not very good haha

The build:

2012 TiAg 135i w/ DCT.

Performance:
  • BMS Intake
  • BMS Pipe
  • JB4 ISO with MHD
  • VRSF Charge Pipe
  • Wagner Tuning Performance II Intercooler
  • Muffler Delete

Suspension and Brakes:
  • ECS Two Piece Front Rotors
  • BMW Performance Rear Rotors
  • EBC Bluestuff
  • Custom Brake Ducts
  • Bilstein B14s
  • 1M Strut Bar
  • Whiteline Inserts

Cosmetics:
  • ECS Grills
  • M Stripes
  • eBay CF Lip Spoiler and Diffuser
  • ECS Exhaust Tips
  • Custom Front Splitter and Spoiler from someone on here
  • Wrapped Interior Trim

Future Plans:
  • Better Suspension
  • Proper Rims and Tires
  • LPFP Stage 2 Conversion

Welcome! I like the double front chin and stabilizers. Is it functional?

Do you drive around with that tow strap exposed 24/7? PVC pipe brake ducts? Check out desk grommets from office supply stores to secure them to the lower grille in front of a funnel, would look cleaner that way or painted black. Not sure how much good they're doing with such a small opening.

Nope! I put the two straps away when I'm driving it around town. And for the PVC ducts I actually finished them right after I took all these photos. I painted them black and mounted them in the intercooler grill thingy. I also have some temporary HVAC ducting in the stock brake duct location.

Also yes I can feel the different between having and not having the splitter. I did not have the splitter at PittRace but I did have it at Pocono. I could feel the front end grip more in the wet at Pocono than I could in the dry at PittRace. It could be the tracks though.

Wow nicely done for a track build. Do you feel any lacking areas that you'd like to improve on?

Thank you! Definitely seats. I do not have the sport seats in this car and I fight keeping myself centered more than the car.

Just a little update. One of the goals for the winter is to remove as much weight as strategically as possible. I don't have access to corner balance scales so this truck weight station will have to do.

She comes in at 3300 without the back seat, half a tank of gas and the splitter. Within the next month or so I will be slowly taking more of the interior out. The car does not sit at my place so progress will be slow.

Another update! My Welboro pump came today for the LPFP Stage 2 conversion. 50 bucks and it came with almost everything you need to do the conversion. I will probably post a DIY when I get this done this week.

Late update but I have been running the new pump since the last update. Absolutely no problems so far and I ran 100% e85 with no problems. I understand you need port injection to utilize it but I just wanted to see how it ran. I made a diy and you can find it here:

http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1460561

Since then I haven't done much. The only thing was making a new splitter. The old one only went to the back of the bumper while the new one goes to the back of the front suspension. Going further back increases the effectiveness of the splitter. This new one is made out of thin wood so it is more of a template until I can get some Alumalite. I have not had a chance to test it but I will be sure to report back. It still needs to be adjusted but I will wait until it is off of the stands. And, of course, here are pics.

You can see the old splitter in the background on the left in the last picture.

What do you think of the homemade splitter? I'm considering doing my own but have yet to find a good source on materials (looking for 1/4" ABS)

I haven't been able to drive the car yet with the splitter but this one is made from quarter inch plywood. I am pretty sure it will not hold up to sustained track use but I am going to make another out of Alumalite. It's two aluminum sheets with a corrugated plastic core. It's super strong and can be bought at any sign shop.

That's interesting but how will it hold up with air/water/debris getting between the layers? Or do you plan to seal the leading edge somehow?

Honestly I never thought about that. It's so thin I wouldn't think it would be a problem, probably an eighth of an inch. If anything maybe some epoxy or glue as a piece of mind.
