most likely everyone will agree that the Dunlop Star spec will be the best bang for the buck tire. if your willing to spend alittle more than i would recommend the michelin pilot sport PS2.

Dunlop Direzza Star Spec would be the one.

are you looking for tires for your OEM wheels? if you're spinning in third, you'll want to bump up the width of your tires, and the factory wheels will limit you to a 255 max, and that's not even adding much since it balloons the contact patch.

wider is better,, can you get a rim that is wider that matches the factory ones so I would only have to buy the rear? or can you go wider all the way around?

You can absolutely go wider on the rear. You can go to 235's in the front with stock wheels. To go any wider in the front, you would need camber plates and fender rolling... I have heard of people getting 285's or 295's on the rear with the right rims....

Can you elaborate on that? I know they are much lighter than star specs. Other than that what are other performance adventages?

I cant speak for the star specs. But my PS2s are just fantastic. They have a tremendous amount of grip in both the wet and the dry. They arent the cheapest tire out there, but they are well worth the money.

Ok BrokenVert. Sounds good. As i am getting ready for track season here in the northeast, i am trying to find the best street tires. I have done 3 track days on star specs with e46 m3 and was impressed with amount of grip in the dry, but when i look at the specs., they are so much havier than ps2 or most r-comp tires. As we all know extra unsprung weight and rotational mass cant be good for performance driving.

PS2 is great all-round performer. Star Spec is more specialized for dry grip.

I'm running CSL reproductions that are 1 inch wider front and rear and I'm about to pull the trigger on new tires. Any thoughts on the RE-11's ?? The car is only driven in the summer and rarely if ever in the rain.

The Re-11's are some super sticky tires.....the wear ratings isn't the best but they seem pretty good from what I saw at O'fest this past year....
