Who the hell buys this car for their kid?
Unless of course, you are trying to get rid of the kid. I realize that about everyone on this board is probably under 25, but this is way too much car for anyone under 20. Whoever sold the car out from under junior probably saved his life. Yikes!

Now I really feel old. I'm 49! But at least I'm a young 49. Just for kicks, everybody in this thread should post their age. Someone please admit to something over 30. Hey, what the... where's my Geritol?!

I saw - and heard - a 911 scrape the bottom of his front scoop coming off a steep downhill (in a parking lot, no less, and driving slowly!). The memory of the scaping sound still creeps me out. Afraid it spooked me on ground effects forever. Have you posted larger photos of your car anywhere else on the forum?

Honestly, the kid with the Mustang is probably now dead. If you drive 4000 miles in a 135 and then hop in a Shelby, you are probably going to fly out of a corner into a tree or brake too late and again... tree. I'm not bashing Mustangs by any means because I've driven enough to respect what they are capable of when you take off most of the Ford parts. I'm 29 by the way, so at least I'm over the 25.

I would just be patient and get the new 09. Hey once you sign the paperwork you've got to live with it for awhile, so make the right choice. |

MatthewDFW better pics here(note: it has black kidney's now and soon 3-piece Vorsteiners): http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showp...7&postcount=24
As far as the above car, I MIGHT do it for 37k...but probably not. I have not scraped anything with my spoiler....then again I am very careful when I drive. My greatest fear is parking to close to the concrete parking stops. And I have not even lowered the car yet! |

Lots of other forum members seem to agree - as I do - that getting the first dent, ding, or chip out of the way breaks the bad-mojo and let's you just get back to plain old driving. But that doesn't mean we look forward to it.

The one from the rear was taken in front of the Dealership...the others were taken on the Roadtrip back from Atlanta to Hilton Head/Savannah area.

Oh, man. I so agree with your take on the kid going from BMW/135i cornering to Ford/Shelby. I feel bad for the tree. Maybe, instead, he'll just rear-end a Prius.
Or - if he actually survives the Mustang - I do wonder if he'll ever mature enough to realize what he turned down. Like you, I have nothing against the Shelby. But it sure looks like a dumb choice to me. Let's just hope he doesn't meet a BMW head-on going into a sharp corner; it would be a shame if he wrecked a real car.

I'm 37 years old. I can't imagine being able to afford one of these cars at 25. I think I was driving a bright green Honda Del Sol at that point. It had 135 HP and was more fun to drive than just about anything else I've ever driven (except for my ZHP and forthcoming 135, of course). I still miss the roll down back window. It was perfect for ventilation on a winter day.

Not saying there aren't a few guys here and there in their mid twenties who've really earned it and really can afford a 135i price-range car, but you know, there is that "other" group who always seems to be well represented on internet cool-car forums.

I might be old, but I'm not into heavy fogeyism, at least not yet. Jeez, I hope I'm not the oldest guy on the forum. That would suck a bit. At 25, I was driving an ancient blue Triumph TR7 with 100k on it. Had to refill leaky radiator every morning. And don't even get me started on the Lucas electrics I had to strip out and replace! Ah... those were the days. Reminds me of old British Sports Car Joke... Q: Why do the British drink warm beer? A: They have Lucas refrigerators. My wife will tell you I'm 49, going on 21 - but then, she's the one with the hot-rod red Mini Cooper S.

Update:
I drove the 08 135i today. Nice little car, but seemed to lack the power I was expecting. I also drove an 07 Z4 M Coupe, another fun little car. After driving the M Coupe, I think I'm sold, especially considering the price difference. I will know more tomorrow |

@Matthew:Priceless! My father(dont worry your still younger than him)is a big kid still too. When all of us finally left the house he went out and bought himself the 300zx he always wanted....ahem...a 1988 300zx....LOL
@Scrapiron: yeah there are some great deals out there right now on Z4M's. They are also being discontinued so there is a bit of exclusivity in that as well. Good luck whatever you decide! |

Ouch. Dang, that hurts! <g> As you well know from visits to the "Is is even reasonable to compare 135i vs. Z4M" thread, those are fighting words on this web site. Many a forum troll has incurred Green Hulk wrath and irksome Rectal Pain Eternal by besmirching the 135i's performance. Even in jest. Even when true. That said - and in all sincerity - most of us are probably relieved that you passed on the 135 w/ 4k miles. No telling what the kid did to it before unwisely downgrading to Shelby Mustang. Enjoy the Z4M.
