I may buy one of these because I am in love with its "blocky"/traditional square BMW appearance with the M goodies - then it will become a dedicated track car - sunny day only machine to keep forever. This car really speaks to me.

Those fenders remind me of old school e30 m3 fenders.

I hope I can afford one..

Every M car has quad exhaust. I don't think this will be an exception.
I think they are using the twin exhaust on oneside for camouflage

Never mind the looks - the specifications are closer to the is than to the m-class.

What specifications? This car doesn't exist according to BMW

and since when does an exhaust make it an m car or not? That's a bit nitpicky don't you think?

Looks like it is going to be a beast!

You KNOW Scott is sitting behind his PC just laughing at all this bickering!!

"I know what it is, I know what it is"

We can only speculate, but I personally think it will be a ///M car

a couple of things dont sit right w/ me. looks at the a-pillar, it doesnt have the m-sport antracite headliner, all m-cars have this. also the exhaust has been pointed out. the more i look at it, it just look like a regular 1er w/ thicker rubber, thats it

Where is the roof, the hood, the bootlid, the quads, the gills, the vents?

All the "missing things" are just cosmetic.
Like wrong coloured headliner would make this a non-M?

I suspect they test the inner mechanics well before they start making cosmetic upgrades on their mules

Maybe those are missing because this is a very early mule? Good questions regardless...

why would they camouflage a normal 1er just for having thicker rubber and wider fenders? I remember a while back seeing the current Z4's mule, it had a cloth roof that almost suggested it would have rear seats . . . besides, why would they waste their time with a 135is if they were gonna make an M version? The M1 Personalization Program sounds AMAZING if its all real

Why would an "is" model get such extensive body work?

Widened fenders front and back?

Only time will tell, but my money is on it being an early m1/1m/WTF ever M they decide to call it.

The cosmetics you guys are looking for are easy ad-ons and/or changes, hard to mistake those widened fenders though...

It might not be practical to put the twin exhaust on it due to its small width

But Scott has already said that the M1 will get them along with all the other signature M goodies, incl gills, bulge etc

So mechanical bits like an LSD, wider wheels with different offsets and a new front bumper with more aggressive brake cooling are present, and the lack of purely cosmetic stuff makes you guys think this will somehow be a half baked "is" product? Silly. No one's mentioned the non-sport (in the US) aluminum window trim either.

to you "it is not an M car" people; I hear what you are saying (primarily that it is not normally aspirated with some other good points) BUT, if it is quicker or the same as the M3 0-100 mph and it post the same or similar track times AND comes from the M Division, is it still not an M? for me, I know the answer but some of you might be a little stubborn

The N55 is twin turbo technology? Looks like a 1 series to me with polarizing looks. I'm really leaning towards the 335is now.

I am with you guys, not sold that this is actually the fabled M1. 135is might seem more likely, but I really do hope that it ends up being a true M car - perhaps they are just not far enough along in development to show off the exhaust / other typical M goodies.
