the headlights look too japanese to me. they'd fit on an infiniti, but I feel like they take away from the kraut-ness of the 1er.

My shop foreman just got back from BMW school in NJ and the rumor there is that there will be NO next gen of the 1er. This will be it, no facelifts, 3-5 year run and done. We may have a collectable on our hands!

I would guess since the coupe was only just released we would see a 4 year run then a change in model for the 1 series. The car isn't a failure , its smaller than the 3er , why wouldn't their be a next gen 1er ?

Are you in a position to elaborate?

BMW usually runs a seven year model cycle so that does not fit the BMW model. It would not be profitable to do a 3 – 5 year run on a $40k.

Berduderunner saying it is an X1 makes sense. I have heard the X1 will be on sale in 2010 and that is in line with the article.

no, the hatch & 4 door have been out for years, and are due for a facelift now

I like this new hatch design a LOT better than the current one

Wow you guy!! This has been discussed many times. It would not only be a 3-4 run for the 1 series. Only the coupe is new! The hatch has been in EU for some time now!

I can see the next gen of the 1 coming in 3 years, but the coupe to stay as is for about 2 (maybe 3) years longer.

So any talk about a 3-4 run not being profitable is... well I won't go there... it already has been 4 years!

I predict E81 and E87 will run till MY2010 and at that time E82 and E88 will get a face lift and will go for another 3 years.

Disclaimer: I do not claim to have inside knowledge, or know someone, who talked to someone who 'knows' somthing.

We'll see how it turns out. I've been wrong before! I'm still waiting to hear about my 123d arriving on our shores. And still waiting to see if my previous assumption on the 1 series line up come true.

p.s. This is more what the X1 is going to look like:
