Well, for the E46 you first have to remove the microfilter from under the hood first. Its just behind the dashboard, all the way in front. Then theres a predrilled spot for you to mount the siren and connect it.

In the trunk, behind either the left or right panels behind the wheelwells, is a spot for you to mount the tilt sensor. Then finally, you open a little compartment in the overhead inside the cabin where the courtesy lights are and connect the control module to a pre-colored wire harness. That's basically it.

But then this all has to be set in motion by the dealer, who still has to activate the alarm ($$$$). And once again, we're talkin' E46 here...things may have changed.

i like the two way feature of the compustar, but then you have to carry around the bmw fob, compustar alarm remote and the two way device. seems like a lot to carry around. I'm all for the extra protection though. I wonder if you can just have the bmw fob programmed to eliminate carrying two remote fobs? if anyone know let me know.
I do like the idea of the simplicity of just a plug-n-play factory alarm, rather than an aftermarket where they have to cut and drill into my new baby. -might void some electrical warranty down the road.

i'd rather not get the bmw alarm and just get the compustar with remote start, altho its annoying to carry around two key fobs but i think its worth it.

hey has anybody successfully installed a compustar with remote start on their e90?
i wasnt sure if remote start would work on the e90 because of the push start ignition, which requires the key fob in the slot

for those who have installed the compustar with remote start
how much was it?
does it void the bmw warranty?

thanks

It's a little different install in the E90. Here is my DIY. I would be happy to fax the official BMW instructions to anyone with the kit that needs them.

There have been other threads on this, but here's the scoop: It's an option. I had it installed for $455 at the dealer.

at the risk of sounding redundant, what specifically came with that install? Is it the siren and everything, too? My dealer said that there wasn't any kind of audible alarm, just a power cutoff or some such (I wasn't listening too carefully) but I found that hard to believe...

I'm was also wondering the same thing. Compustar with a remote start would be sweeeet. If I have a compustar installed why would I still need to carry the BMW remote?
