So you are all for helping US corn farmers at the expense of gas mileage and risk of various unknown risks to engines owned by the vast majority of America?

We clearly differ on how to make things better for all.

If I have concern or problem I will buy 100% gas available locally. Don't buy into all the fear of ethanol . Really do not care about others opinions and hope others do not care about mine = add mine for sake of conversation.

One would think they'd proudly advertise that or put that in the fine print in their website and pumps...

It's a fact that ethanol has less chemical energy than gasoline.

It's also a fact that using corn to produce "gasohol" is not environmentally sensible.

The production and manufacture of corn-based fuel in this scenario uses more energy than the resultant ethanol contains. You can look it up.

But it seems a lot of the discussion becomes speculative. E.g. I have read and been told not to use ethanol fuels in my 135i as it is a bad thing. It also seems to be that ethanol dissolves water, dilutes the fuel and promotes corrosion of metal parts.

I've read that Esso 91 here in Canada is ethanol free, but I'm not sure, so I usually fill up with expensive Shell. (Almost $7.00 Canadian per Canadian gallon of 4.55 L)

Shell and Esso are the same price.
Shell indicates it's 0 Ethanol on the pump and on the website. So I always use shell.

I LOLed at the "Canadian Gallon" hahahah what the hell is that

Gotta know your units! Hey, maybe Doug Ford will bring back imperial, get rid of this weird metric stuff. LOL I still convert my "mileage" back to mpg, just for fun. When I started driving I could fill up my car with gas for $8, about 2 hours pay.

LOL

Yeah but I've only seen people convert litres to gallons for our American friends' benefit.
And it's 3.8 litres

While so far 10% Ethanol hasn't affected any of my vehicles or lawn mower equipment, I can tell you with 100% certainty Ethanol F'd up the fuel tank on my 2009 Ducati 848. All Ducati bikes of that generation using tanks sourced from Acerbis were affected. The mildest damage would be your tank would develop bubbling or bowing on the surface of the tank. At its worst, the tank would stretch so you couldn't reattach the tank or in one case the ventilation tubes inside of the tank snapped and allowed fuel to pour out of onto the engine.

Yeah, I agree. It's a missed opportunity for them. When I asked Esso about it they basically didn't care, said it was up to the Retailer to advertise the ethanol free status. Hard to understand.

15% eth is really going to be an issue for people who store their vehicles for more than a month. Look up phase separation ethanol and report back. As an avid snowmobiler, I can tell you that many two stroke engines have been lost due to this, not to mention corrosion and clogging of carb jets. There's a reason I run only VP Fuels small engine premix in my weed trimmer.

Well, now that corn-syrup is not selling as well as it once did, the govt. has to find new ways to prop up the unprofitable corn industry it subsidizes, so they're pushing ethanol.

It would make vastly more sense to force the corn farmers to switch to a crop that actually has sustainable market value and doesn't need to be subsidized (y'all remember the images in the 80's of warehouses of corn left to rot just to keep the price up?)

Oh well, if it's not one special interest group getting the govt to prop them up at taxpayer expense, it's another. Pick your poison, I guess.

Easy solution. Lets go back to pure methanol, legalize weed at the federal level and turn all the corn farmers into cannabis growers.

Or at least hemp, which is a great product, but the lumber industry has convinced people that hemp=pot (even though anyone with a brain knows hemp has no drug value) and they should be scared of pot (and by extension, it's equally dangerous (harmless) cousin hemp)!.
