Thanks for info. I want to diy this but for $100 bucks and not havibg lots of free time lately almost no brainer to pay the cash. Did they repack all of the insulation? Just welded the holes in pipe? Sounds good. I'm going to do a res delete while I'm at it, thanks for sharing.

To be honest I think this sounds best with the stock resonator, downpipe and this mod.

This muffler is actually louder than the pe muffler. The pe exhaust comes with the resonator with a straight pipe. This with resonator delete would drone a lot.

I had the same mod done to mine. Ran it with the stock downpipe at first and it was nice. I installed a 4" catless down pipe and it was glorious! I just had my exhaust redone by the same guy. He built me a custom 3" stainless axleback with anti-drone chamber (like the afe) and dual 89mm tips. Deeper sound, less drone, and has a smoother, less raspy sound with the catless downpipe. (Plus it was free!)

Just as an update, I did downpipes and resonator delete after this mod and they made a huge difference (especially the resonator delete!). I still have my secondary cats intact. I like the sound now. Pretty aggressive, with just a little drone. I'm probably going to end up redoing this (or upgrading to the real thing) at some point because I hear the bands inside vibrating once in a while. They must have worked themselves loose over time.

For anyone doing this mod, I recommend to have the holes welded shut instead to avoid the clamps from loosening and rattling down the line.

Hey Guys,

I just did this mod on my otherwise stock 2011 135 N55. This is the best Bang for your Buck mod you can do. Period. Pure genius. Heat wrap covered both sets of holes and kept all the fiberglass in.

Impressions:
At start up and idle the car is only barely louder, however in the “fun RPM” range I think it’s about 10-20% louder and sounds deeper and more aggressive. It also accents the pops and burbles at low speed that the muffler tends to…. Muffle. Very Very happy with the results, fantastic for the price.
On a stock car this is totally worth it. Next step is the downpipe and JB4.

Procedure and tips:
The hardest part of the whole deal was getting the Muffler off. Those rubber hangers are terrible. I soaked them in WD40 and used a flathead and needle nose to work them out. If I were doing this again I would buy the 3 Hangers new for 30 bucks and just cut them off.
Once the muffler is off I had to cut both the top and the bottom with an angle grinder to get to the big holes and small holes. I wanted to do it all from the top but it was impossible to get both. You only need to cut the thin strip down the middle to access the holes, only 2-3 inches wide.
Wrapping was easy enough, I used:
DEI 010121 Black 2" Exhaust Wrap - 15' and
Breeze Power-Seal Stainless Steel Hose Clamp, Worm-Drive, SAE Size 36, 1-13/16" to 2-3/4" Diameter Range, 1/2" Bandwidth (Pack of 10)
from amazon and secured each side with 3 ring clamps. I used these from amazon too and they fit great, covering everything well.

I had access to a welder so that part was free (minus the beer and pizza) but a nice grind afterwards made it super easy. Reattaching was a breeze, again thanks to WD40.

so i finally started this project today after i picked up a used muffler from a local forum member. cut open around 4"x9" slit in the top of the muffler. how did you guys get the exhaust tape around? i dont know if i have fat hands but i had no screwdriver at the time and was running late for dinner with the wife so i just stopped. i only plan to wrap the pipe with the 2 big holes as i am n54 with atless dp's and n54 mids so i dont want it to drone or too loud.

I just used a long screw driver to push the wrap around the pipes. This was the most annoying part of the whole thing to me. Also getting the clamps on was a pain too.

Maybe I'm crazy or I screwed something up but I just did this and don't notice much of a difference at all. I have an n54 with no other exhaust mods besides the golf-tee mod.

I wrap both pipes with thermal wrap and tiny inox and all that fixed with clamps and i don't notice much difference on my n54+golf tea mod also... but next week i remove sedondary cats and now sound is perversion especially above 3000rmp, while deacleration you can hear pops and gurgles from exhaust too ) sorry on my bad englih

Didn't do this mod but installed my PE yesterday.

Tip: If you want to get the hangers on and off as easily as possible and not have your exhaust smoke or smell, soak them with Windex. The come off easy and practically jump back on.

Currently working on the PE MOD. I was able to find a spare muffler to experiment with. Three large holes wrapped, and the internal perforated Y section welded as this is an N54 exhaust.

N55, PPK, with PE Y pipe. My car came with the genuine Y pipe and stock exhaust. The previous owner must have parted out the muffler section.

I added the ExhaustMeister wireless flap controller for a golf T on demand solution. Programmed into the garage door 2 + 3 buttons. This helps with the drone at specific highway speeds.

Should be done in early April (out of town).
