I'm not sure that 18's would fit. If the back brakes are this tight with 19's, how tight must the fronts be? there may not be 1/2" to spare in there up front.

I don't understand why people are so impatient, or think that this publicity stunt isn't working. It's obviously drawing up quite a bit of interest. With the world premiere in December, is it that hard to wait? I'd rather they do the strip tease than show nothing at all for all this time.

So why are people saying it makes BMW look bad?
I really don't get that. Either you are interested in the fun marketing or you are not, I just don't understand why people are saying BMW looks bad because of it. Its not like the campaign is crass or offensive, its just something to highlight something BMW are proud of - Their M Divisions new "affordable" M car. Lets face it most normal people see M and and think 1 of two things: 1. Whats that M thingy? 2. Wow, I know that's out of my price range. Its just BMW trying to have a fun thing to follow such as the slow reveal and "erh um" leaking of information. Makes for alot of buzz, maybe they want this to be the successful start of a new Generation of M and are very proud of that so they are excited as well. If you think about it the 1SMC is the first generation of 1 Series M cars and most likely will be grand because it was the only 1SMC with a 6 cylinder engine - "Just like the M3's of the future". And while my subaru wrx was nice, neither it nore the sti had as good a driving feel as the 1er. I'll be surprised if the new 1ers have the feel ours do to drive. |

I hope those rear vents are real and not just for show. It should, in theory, help with downforce. It would be cool if they had vents in front of the rear wheel arch too to aid in brake cooling.
Did anyone notice the way the interior part of the air intakes (on the front bumber) were shaped? It looks like they are shaped to increase downforce and flow air to the oil cooler, IMO.

Believe me, I would. If it were just a matter of how the car looks, I can wait. No problem. But the way information is released these days, Im anxious to get performance specs (and drive impressions). These two pieces of info will be the deciding factor for me to buy. If the rumor is true that there will be limited units, I want to be in line to get one. Get to my dealer a drop a deposit. I dont need to be first in line or tenth, or hundreth. But, I dont want to be standing there holding my 'you know what' watching everyone else have fun. Everyone has a reason for wanting this car, mine is not looks, thats all. Its personal. I could care less if it has a carbon fibre diffuser or chrome tip exhaust. I keep checking in waiting for some engine specs and mostly what I see are body panels. I'd be nice if they could 'tease' a little spec data as well, no? When they reveal a new quarter panel, BMW could release.... I dunno, the weight or something. |

1) people thinking this "looks bad" - not me, Im loving this car so far 2) interested in the "fun marketing" - personally, not loving the marketing. I mean c'mon. The hot girl with her hand near the tailpipe? Automotive soft core porn almost. Dont get me wrong, love porn as much as the next billion guys. But, not with this car, not now, its cheap. OK, said my peace, I'll stop writing negative comments, sit back and wait for the windshield unveil. |

I don't mind about the teasing on the look, but they should do it on the specs too. After all it is an M car, and what makes the difference between M and other models is much much more than the look.

That's what concerns me too. Apparently in BMW's eye, the special thing about 1M is visual; performance isn't even in the conversation they're having with us about the car. Gives me a very 1iS vibe.

The car looks great even though the chick is very ugly. I'm not that excited though as I'm not going to buy a car on looks alone. If there aren't some real performance upgrades I'm not interested. If I were the type of person who bought a car for looks I'd be driving around in an Audi.

Hi guys,
First post here, I couldn't resist to comment as I've been reading this thread for a few days, just to come back and see that this unveiling happened.. 200 meters from my office and I just didn't see anything... neither the chick nor the car. What a shame :-) |
