First Drive in Your 1er?
T minus 2 months & counting...
It's March and you're pulling out of the dealer in your new 1er. Where are you headed first? Favorite piece of road? To your buds so they can drool? Straight home so you can Zaino it? I'll be picking mine up at the Performance Center, then driving it back to Dallas. Any recommendations for twisties in SC, GA, AL, MS, or LA would be greatly appreciated. |

That depends...if there's a lot of snow somewhere could an empty parking lot to do some donuts...
Oh who am I kidding, it would probably be a nice little(or long) drive with the Mrs. and then right into the garage so it can get settled into it's new home.:drinking: |

Last summer I road the Dragon with a German guy from the Spartanburg plant in his 330i...I simply loved it...& can only imagine what the 135 will be like. After that ride I knew my next car would be a BMW...and NO I won't let the MINI go...I like it's special flavor of fun. Guess you also enjoy hwy 28 across the way from 129, with all those quick sweepers. It's practically cop free & a great way to warm up for the Tail IMHO. Her name is "Dragonfly" for a reason! Recognize the overlook in my sig??

Sunset to PCH
That's an easy one for me and one of the true benefits of being an Angeleno. I can't wait to take my 128 with sport package and paddle shifters through the winding curves of Sunset Blvd and through to PCH past Malibu. April can't come fast enough!

I will be taking the long way home on a road that has FIVE stages of the annual Targa Tasmania tarmac rally. Wife and baby are staying home. Woo hoo.
Here's some footage of the 2006 rally, sorry about the video poor quality.

Straight out of Greenville, North on Highway 276 to Cesar's Head State Park (slow steep hairpins up the mountain) and on to the Blue Ridge Parkway (45-65 mph sweepers along mountain ridge). Beautiful scenery, roads in great condition.

50 miles straight to work to replace the run-flat tires. Boring, but necessary.

I keep dreaming of that day. I will probably go for a nice little ride and then take a few photos. Don't forget to break the tires in before you hit the twisties too hard!

I'm hoping fitment tests will clear that haze. I want to test 255&265/35 on the rear and 225&235/40 on the front. It's slim pickins in the standard combo. It's likely we'll have local demo's in before mine arrives so I hope to have this decided before delivery.

Gill,
Please check if the rear wheel/tire setup will fit on the front without interference. That would be ideal for getting rid of the built in understeer if we could go with 245 at all four corners.

I also am Performance Center Delivery. Then probably to see my parents in Erie, PA. It is a decent Highway trip, about 550 miles from Charlotte, NC. 77N to WV route 19 to 79N. There are some really nice high speed corners on route 19 as it winds through the App. Mountains.
Definitely aggree with Blue Ridge Parkway, but many other are usually out for a strol, so be careful. Weekdays are the best. I've heard about the Tail of the Dragon through magazines, so Will eventually hit that up too. |

My first drive will be home to Wisconsin from the Performance Center via little highways and side trips to aim for 1200 miles once I'm home. Change the oil, trans and diff, swap the new tires and see what it really can do.
