Is the mp3 retrofit service bulletin available as a UK-sourced document, because I can see the bloke in service saying something like '...that's got nothing to do with us- it might work in the States, but no chance here...you can have it if you want, but it will be £150..."?

Unfortunately, from my experience, BMW UK have far less knowledge about their cars than you, Fleet!

Sorry, have no idea how to get a UK document

Just tell them you phoned BMW and they told you the dealer must load CIP 20 and then choose MP3 via "retrofit" to fix the problem you are having

Brought my car in this morning, picked it up in the afternoon.
I told them I also wanted the MP3 fix, they didn't had a clue what i was talking about. Then I showed them the doc E90Fleet posted earlier and they said they would look into it.

And yezz! I can now play MP3

(I actually inserted a MP3 cd before i brought it in, when i got it back it was at track 8...).

Car is from april 2005 btw.

Got my update for mp3s today in the UK.

I've got a wk36 build 330iSE.

Just showed the service bloke the SIB 65 30 05 document & that was it- no kicking, no screaming & no showing my manual to prove I should have it!

Had a play about with format/media compatability following the mp3 update:

I've tried CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R & DVD-RW & they ALL have worked with mp3s. WMA files only seem to play in the CD-changer.

Just called my BMW dealer (Momentum BMW) here in Houston and spoke with him about this update and he had no idea. I sent him the bulletin via email for his review and I'm awaiting his answer. I made an appointment for next week to have them update the software anyhow. Will keep you updated.

You must specifically ask for it

It is not just added when the new CIP 20 software is put on the car, they have to ask the computer to add it via "retrofit"

Fortunately my pre-september E90 plays MP3's.

Don't forget to request the mp3 functionality. I just answered another post from another guy who got the update but he still can't play mp3.

Bought my car on 6/29/2005.
330i with Navigation... 7 months & no MP3.
Had new CD changer installed on 1/12/06 + CIP 20.1 update.
Not sure which did the trick? but my car plays MP3 flawless now!

I called my dealer yesterday to ask this be added to a long list of stuff they need to do, gave him the SIB number and they're still incredulous that it will work without a hardware change.
