I bet they will be underrated less maybe not at all, unlike a 1M.
We all know by now that, regarding official figures, BMW under(e)st(im)ated the 1M performance output figures (hp, Nm, 0-62mph, etc.), probably not to trespass too far on M3 sales territory. It was a one-off experiment to test the market for powerful compact cars, with initially a limited production volume (2700 cars) and limited production run (2011), so no embarrassing threat of cannibalizing M3 sales too much.

The M2 could have a very similar performance output as the 1M, with the difference that for the M2 the official figures will closer match reality. So on paper the M2 will have more impressive figures, while in reality it remains a close tie with the 1M.

But don't underestimate how the competition (especially Audi [RS series], Merc [AMG series] and Porsche [R and RS series]) could influence BMW future decision-making re price, size, design, power, etc. The market evolves, so either you adapt or you could become "has been".

Anyways, for BMW as well the competition, the 1M will remain 'The Once and Future King' of the powerful compact cars market, a relevant benchmark, a point of reference.

Let's see whether the M2 can live up to the high expectations and eventually outclass the 1M.

It's interesting to know that Scott26 gave a hint regarding that render (December 2012) (http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showp...20&postcount=2):
"If you tweak the headlights to be a bit more sharper you are on the right path to how the car will look. We will know more about the 2er in the first few months of 2013 as BMW are keen to showcase another niche like they done with the 4er Concept with a 2er Concept to get customers and BMW fans accustomed to the new designation strategy.
Since the 4er introduction there has been hardly any negative response about the decision to change the name of the 3er Coupe.
Which is possibly due to the fact that the strategy make sense when you actually seen the concept car."

We're getting teased by a 2er spy video: http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=806780

Is supposed to give us an idea of the what the M2 will be stemming from.

Just wondering whether the dark one (blue or black) which you can see in the 02:30-02:35 section of the video is a 2er without camouflage or whether it's just another model ?

Looks to me like the 3er GT. makes an appearance at 0:40 too, looks like you can see the spoiler and glasshouse.

Could be an xDrive model testing as it has a badge on the left hand side covered in camo.

Hi Artemis, good eye! I too wondered what that model is. It does look like an uncamouflaged 2 series. The rear end proportions look very similar.

Given that the F2* 1er hatch versions are bigger than the previous E8* 1er hatch versions, I have no doubt the 2 series will be equally bigger than the current E8* cars.

Bimmerpost article of today (March 21, 2013): "BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé Rendered - Firm Plans for M2 Coupé and M2 Gran Coupé":
http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=818302
  • BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe - 4 door addition of 2 Series Coupe with slightly lengthened wheelbase and roof line, aimed at BMW's RWD dominance against Audi A3 Sedan and Mercedes-Benz CLA.
  • BMW 2 Series Gran Sports Tourer - Hyundai Veloster type A-symmetrical Tourer Coupe inspired by classic 2002 Touring variant, has many admirers in Munich.
  • BMW M2 Coupe - Successor to the BMW 1 Series M Coupe continues the same formula that made the last car be memorable, no huge competitor in the HP race, four cylinder will bring less weight, which matter most as does more enjoyment and overall feel is considered to be more of a priority than who has the biggest numbers. Already confirmed to be coming by BMW CEO.
  • BMW M2 Gran Coupe - Baby Coupe inherits a four door brother and RWD, Direct competitor to the Mercedes-Benz CLA45 AMG. Scott26 shares that there are now firm plans for an M2 Gran Coupe.

M2 Gran Coupe better be much more looker than the F20 1 series and its spin offs; here is the coming Mercedes-Benz CLA 45 AMG, pictures are leaked yesterday or today, I think it looks real good for that segment:

http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/mercede...ictures-leaked

2 things I detest are exhaust tips and i-pad like absurd info screen. Other than those, this car looks perfect imo.

It's the possible racing version. Not for the average Joe.
I would suspect the €200,000 price range.

I always told myself I would never sell my 08 135i.... But some of these new coupes are looking good :x

The only thing that really bothers me about the new design is how the hood is a straight line cut off...
