Got my notice and scheduled the visit but they only shuttle 20 miles and both my home and work are further away than that. I "need" the PCV too but I think I will have to just wait for them to do the work. I scheduled it for the day after my last day of work, I am retiring, so that isn't the way I wanted to spend my day but it isn't the end of the world either.

The blow by heater recall only takes about 30-40 mins. Can often do both recalls in under an hour.

Look at it this way - once retired you shouldn't be pressed for time and be able to enjoy the espresso and snacks at the dealer

Getting mine done as we speak! Wonder how the techs will react to everything being non-stock lol.

Spoke with an SA at my dealer this morning, wanting to know more about the recall (i.e., are they simply replacing a like part, and/or is there additional work to deal with what I view as a water problem?). I was told it's a simple like part replacement. I've already done mine (different thread on this forum) and so there's no more to be done.

Elaborate please. Classic is about 5 minutes away and I was planning to go there. I've never taken a car to them for service.

I've had several problems. They've done unnecessary work before. I eventually got the right work done, as I was under warranty. But it was very frustrating.

Recently, in addition to recall work which they actually solicited, I asked for help in getting some clips fastened for my headlights. They said ok, and proceeded to screw that up, and now I need to buy a whole new headlight assembly for both sides of my car.
$3000.

Not a fan.....

If you can go somewhere else, I would.

Was there a power lead/fuse box recall as well? Having no-start electrical issues right now.

What I thought too.

Turns out that it was marked as done but NOT actually done by the tech at the time back in 2013.

Very apparent when you dissemble that the OEM pre recall parts were still installed. no bolt in cable retainer installed.

BMW paid to have it done "again".

Jim,

Congrats on the retirement. You can use the time at the dealer to scope out the new M850.

I'll look at what they have in the show room but I think my next vehicle is likely to be a pickup. I pull a little trailer with my e88 but it would be less of a hassle to just have the bed on the back. And I need something with a bigger back seat for grandkids - but BMW has lots of vehicles that would provide that. But it's fun to look.

I will also have my tablet with at least one book on it. So with free coffee and a book to read, I will be fine.

Thanks for the tip on how long it takes. Hopefully they will get to working on mine fairly quickly.

My dealership fucked up my dash, be careful. Ask them to watch them do it. I have to take my car back on Friday for them to redo it and order plastic parts they broke.

Ugh. There's another separate thread reporting similar dash issues afterwards.

MightyMouseTech explained that stuff shouldn't need to be touched. I'm confused why dashes are getting wrecked when I trust what he says. What the heck else are other techs doing?

Guess we all need to drive to Canada to let him do the work!

This is why every issue gets blown out of proportion. People post on several threads. Not complaining, but good to keep in mind before letting the Chicken Little inside of you out!

This seems to be procedure from E90
https://fdocuments.in/document/recal...r-wiring-.html
So they may remove fuse box.

I have some extra fuse and wiring for retrofited steering heating. I wish they could do attach my wires properly behind the fuse box.
(When I tried to remove it there was not enough room to even find screws. )

That really is interesting, they are not replacing the blower, just the harness and regulator. When I inquired as to what was being replaced at my dealer, the SA told me just the blower part-for-part. Now I don't know what to think.

Just had this done at Fields in Orlando, spoke with head service tech (not SA, he didn't know) and he confirmed nothing on the dash or radio should be touched, they use the panel underneath. At this is what he said for my 2011 (5/10 production). Car was done in 90 minutes and looks the same as it did when I dropped it off.

I had this and the PCV recall done last Friday at the Columbia, SC dealership. They did a really great job! I did not inspect the work but the professionalism of the repair personnel was first class. In previous visits they were not bad but they are definitely better now. I haven't noticed anything wrong. The work did not take long but I waited a bit on BMW USA to do their part so I could get a paper copy of the invoice/documentation that the recall was completed. I asked them to ignore the check engine light (evaporative system) and TPMS (wheel sensor I think) and they did with no arguments or cautions. It was really nice to just go there and get the work done with no hassles.
