Checking tail lights

Gentlemen,

I'm purchasing the newer version of tail lights and they're currently not installed in the seller's car so I've no way of checking that they will work.

Short of actually checking them by installing them, are there things to look out for to make sure they're good and will indeed work?

I was supposed to pick them up yesterday, but logistics didn't work out so I'm hoping to pick them up today. If any one has any ideas that they can let me know about ASAP that will be greatly appreciated.
