Yellow Check Engine Light

So on my way to work this morning mergins onto the highway gave the 1er a good rip into 4th gear. Engine temp about 250 and right after i let off the gas, Yellow check engine light and limp mode. Let the car cool down about 10 degrees shut off and turn back on light was gone. This has never happened before, not to mention i was just driving me daily commute... no spirited driving other than that 1 pull merging onto the highway. Could this possibly be a the fuel pump issue or just overheating into limp mode? Seems kinda odd for just normal driving.

You have dinan in there - does the car have any oil cooler? 20-30kw extra heat load on the oil from a good pull will heat oil up. If there is no oc or it is blocked/ineffective, you could have issues...

yea i do have Dinan.. but never have had an issues b4. The tune was on all alst summer in the heat as well, no issues. I have a Dinan Oil cooler to be installed, which will help, still concerned though since this hasnt been an issue previously. I'm just going to keep an eye on it, maybe take it in if it keeps happening. Since i did get in an accident something could have not been installed correctly on the fix. We will see.

An OBDII code reader would let you read any codes. They start at about $50. The code is stored even if the light goes out. All you do is plug it into the port, in the drivers footwell area, and follow the instructions. The book that comes with the reader will tell you what the code is about. I can both read codes and clear them with a reader I bought for about $40 on sale at Harbor Freight. They are good for cheap tools but reasonably priced readers are available at auto parts stores, Sears, or you could order on-line. I think they are almost a necessity even if you do not want to repair your own cars. On a chipped car, you may want to clear any related codes before taking your car in for service.

Yes, BT Scanner will be your best investment. It will detect and clear all fault codes, include resetting your service indicator. It is a must have tool in my opinion.

I got the same problem. Did you find this with the BT scanner? If yes, where did you buy it?
Thanks

I googled "BT scanner BMW" to find out what it is. It looks very nice but it is about $300 and up depending on the model. What I use is much cheaper:

http://www.harborfreight.com/can-obd...FRINDQod9Etw4Q

I AM NOT saying this harbor freight tool is equivalent. But I find it useful for my other cars and if I need to clear a code on my bimmer I will use it with every expectation it will work. All the harbor freight tool does is read and delete fault codes. It looks like the BT scanner can do a lot more. I can easily justify a $50 tool I can use on mine and my friends cars. $300+ I guess I could justify if it did something I really needed done but I have not identified that something yet.
