Brake Colour Advice
Hi -
Recently bought a used set of Brembo's which I am planning on fitting to my 1M. The bakes are white / ivory, but I'm planning on sending them off for a refurb & colour change. So my question is - what colour? My 1M is Valencia Orange with standard silver M359 wheels. Considering having the brakes done in VO to match the car - anyone have pictures of this? However thought this might be a bit OTT. My other consideration is that one day I will remove them and sell them - what would be a good 'neutral' colour for this. |

Here is a rough idea from IND using the stock brakes.

I think black is timeless and will match the rears. Looks understated but cool. Other colors look tacky to some of us. Even the blue calipers now on all the BMWs look too much flash and look good on blue or white cars. Look odd on other colors IMHO. Black will also be great for resale value. Silver/Anthracite next cool color but won't match rears. Since rears are just regular one piston jobs, it will look odd if you paint them.
The 1M was a focused cars, whereas the M2 adds fake sound, takes away the oil temp gauge for a glowing M2 logo etc. Adding too much flash to 1M is chasing the new cars whereas the 1M stood apart from that for a BMW so I recommend a nice semi gloss black. People WILL notice the big calipers in black. They will acknowledge them as a performance mod that also looks good. Painting them orange is like having Joe Cocker wear a powder blue Tuxedo at woodstock while singing With a Little Help from my Friends. 2 cents worth. |
