Anyone had their PVC valve heater recall done yet?

Typo in title, meant PCV.

My 128 has been under the PCV valve heater recall for almost a year now. Both BMWNA and the dealer still say that parts aren't available.

I've heard they're prioritizing colder climates (opposite of the airbag recall). Anyone here had theirs done? Post your location if possible.

Really? I have done about 50 of these recalls already. We are a 24 bay shop, and every tech does several a day.

Interesting. It may be that they're dividing the part supply by region. I'll call BMWNA on Monday and see if they'll budge- that's what I needed to do for the airbag recall.

Welcome to the forums!

I got my recall notice at least six months ago, and no news yet. The cold climate priority would make sense...

pcv

Had mine done last week. The intake manifold was damaged from the faulty pcv and was replaced as well. Tech advisor said it was melted. Airbag recall was taken care of at the same time. Everything done at no charge by the dealer.

Mine was done a couple months ago. Given the function and the nature of the problem, prioritizing by region makes a lot of sense in this case.

Better push to get it done fast. I raised hell to get mine done to avoid just this thing. Of course it COULD just be a coincidence...

You can usually ask to have it done before getting something official in the mail.

I hadn't gotten the letter saying parts were available. However, I just had my car in for an alignment and when I got there they asked if I wanted the recall handled as well.

I got a letter yesterday saying they were ready to do it. I called today and they said they don't have the parts but will call me when they do. I made a note and put the letter aside for now. I plan to call them in a couple weeks.

I've never gotten a letter and the website tells me that I have no active recalls.

As an interesting side note, a representative from Ford knocked on my door last night to alert me that I had an airbag recall on my Mustang. He practically insisted that I make an appointment right then and there to take it in. I've known about this for a long time, but kept putting it off because I don't want them tearing into my dash. I guess Ford is taking this recall seriously. He said they were going door-to-door to over 8,000 people in the DFW area.

I just purchased my first BMW ( former Mercedes owner) 1 week ago. Should I contact the BMW dealership to get this scheduled? Also, since it is a RECALL...are there out of pocket expenses for me?

Thanks
Nikki

If you own a BMW but are not the original owner, I would call a local dealership with your VIN handy and see if the recall applies to your car. I think they can rapidly tell you. If it does, they can at least get you on the list - possibly they can schedule your visit.

There is a good chance that BMW does not have good enough records to track the cars through ownership changes.
