Chances of getting a 1m used?
Now that production of 1M is over for US. What probability you thing is higher to find at a dealer?
1. a new 1M. 2. 1M returned as down-payment for a.... (M5) 3. as a lease return. 4. never finding 1M back at a dealer after 2011 |

1) will be difficult but there are a few new ones at dealers now with big 10-15k markups. I think these will trend down in the next couple months and probably end up selling for 2-5k mark up. 2)A couple years before these show up 3)3-5 years before these show up but I think not many 1Ms leased any way. I think used 1Ms with 1000-10,000 miles will start showing up in the next 6 months. Probably will sell for close to or just under MSRP for the next year or so then will discount down slightly over the next few years. |

I would like to find one for ~$40K with under 50K miles in 3-4 years. Perhaps around the time BMW comes out with the rumored/potential M2 coupe in the US (wonder what that would sticker for... $55K?).

I don't know enought about markets, but i think this will be possible in that time frame. How about in 15yrs+ ? will the "instant classic" effect will kick in and be price over the 6 digits..

Expect to pay around $50K even 4-5 years from now. 1000 cars in United States. 1000 for 300 million people.
Finding one that is not beat to shit is the real key. Good Luck. |

I don't see a used, 4-5 year old 1M going for sticker price. There is no direct comparison, but similar models would be the E36/8 S54 M Coupe (~700 total produced for NA) and E86 M Coupe (~1800 total produced for NA). The big difference being these were produced and sold for 2 and 3 model years, respectively. There was just an article in the June Roundel about buying a used '06-'08 M Coupe "Going, Going, Gone" (sub title: "There's a narrow window of opportunity to buy one of BMW's most perfect M Models"). $57K MSRP, the article states $30 to $35K for a 2007 model with 15K - 20K miles. Unfortunately, not a good comparison since the M Coupe was a slow seller and discounted by dealers. Time will tell. I agree it might not depreciate as much as a M3, but not depreciate at all, I think you are dreaming (as I was accused earlier in this thread). |

I agree with you on this. Depreciation might not be as bad as other luxury models, but I strongly doubt we will be seeing over MSRP prices for 2 year old 1Ms with 20,000 miles on the clock.
