Anyone planning on hardwiring a radar Detector into their 135?

I'm wondering if anyone is planning on hardwiring a radar detector into their 1 series. I just purchased a V1 and am going to just run it regularly in my 96 328i unti the 1 series comes out. I'm hoping that the 135i will have an interior that allows for easy hardwiring.

On my E46 M3 I taped into the sunroof power...I'd expect to do the same thing on the 135.

Of course. There's always been a hardwired V1 in every car I've owned.

Thanks for the info guys. I have heard there are a few companies that pay for your ticket if the radar did not prevent you from getting it? Is this true? Thoghts?

My only choice will be one of those radar/ladar jammers + v1. Once the laser hit you its way too late.

Then again I dont speed on public roads that much and keep a viglent watch. It's good enough for me. (I rarely go over 90 on public road unless I have to .)

I love my V1, but might get a laser jammer when I get my next car (be it 135i or something else). The arrows are what makes it stand out above the rest in my book. No more strange beeps and wondering where the heck to look for the cop (or false). My V1 is wired through the sunroof wiring in my E46 and the same went for when I had my E36 M3. I'm sure that will be possible with the 135i since it apparently comes with a sunroof standard.

I'm guessing that the upright front of the 135i, with the large headlights etc will make it fairly easy to get hit by lasers. So, in addition to my V1, I think the laser jammer idea might be necessary. I don't see myself as an agregious speeder or anything, it's just nice to be able to cruise around 85 or so in a 65 on long trips.

The real nice thing about a V1 is its upgradeable. I had my 3 year old V1 upgraded for POP last year.

Common misconception.

Though it is true that laser diverges from the original beam size MUCH less than Radar, it still does so and also reflects off of other reflective objects, giving warning before you get hit.

I've been saved twice from laser tickets on the highway when my V1's laser alert went off. Both times, the laser alarm went off as I approached a bridge from a LONG way away. I imediately dropped anchor and pulled to the middle lane, and then received another laser alert once I was closer and going legal speeds. Sure enough, there was a cop under the bridge. Again, this has happened to me twice with no tickets, and both times I was in triple digits when the first alert sounded.

If you read some of he articles on how to defeat laser, you will find that by eliminating reflective surfaces on the front of your car, and running with bright lights on, you can confuse the laser gun. Cops are taught to aim at your headlights (reflective glass) or license plate (relective coating) with the laser gun in order to get a good read. If you don't have a front plate and you have bright HIDs the gun can often have a tough time getting a read on you, especially form long distances. The v1 is particularly effective in this context.

i was doing some reading today on the BelTronics R75 Plus installed radar/laser detector and laser jammer, and the test seemed to show some pretty effective laser jamming. $1500 sounds pretty steep but about what you have to spend for a quality professionally installed RD. It is compared to the K40 and the escort model. (http://www.radartest.com/article.asp?articleID=7776)

I just sold a 1987 e28 with a BMW branded K40 (installed when the car was new). It was pretty nice to have the little display right there in your instrument cluster. Of course it now detected only banks and grocery stores and would go off when my wife sneezed, but it seemed like a nice way to fly.

I am currently using a Passport 8500, and the laser detection has saved me a few times, I think when the beam scatters off another car. Scares the crap out of me when that thing goes off.

All I know for sure is that I am spending some serious cash on a radar detector. More than likely will be a Valentine.

In the E9x, it's best to run the power wire into the fuse box in the glovebox. Apparently, the tabs for the overhead control unit break easily and if they break, you need to replace the headliner.
