My Precious....

MY PRECIOUS....

I have ordered the 1st 100 rings! I had to make some concessions with regards to text because some of the text was just too small for the mold process. Had to drop the word 'series'. My friend who is a typesetter for a major publication helped me out with the font, spacing, etc. to meet the fabrication requirements/limitations. All 100 rings will be orange(high polish finish) to start and if the demand is big enough, I will be willing to do a second and third batch of 50 each of two other colors. Again, only if people are interested.

Maybe all of these details in the development/fabrication is boring for some, but I just wanted everyone feel like they were part of the process. They should be here in 2-3 weeks. As soon as I get some good close up photos for people to see I will setup a specific PayPal account to start taking orders.

Here is the 3D rendering:

Price?

Apologies if I missed it (this thread is getting awfully long), but what price are we looking at? Thanks for the hard work.

No not at all. I used an orange and white(on the ring below) vinyl wrap for those photos for illustration purposes.

It will be closer to the stitching more like the orange plastic sample I'm holding:

$39.99 vs $49.99?

I really struggled with what to price these at. In the end I chose a high quality ABS plastic(there are literally thousands to choose from), a UV stabilizer option which cost $500/batch alone(also means I have to sell 10 more pieces per batch to break even because of that option alone), scratch resistant, highest level(1-6) of 'finish' quality, and so on. Basically if I am going to do this, I am going to do it right. Could I have cut corners to save everyone $10 per ring? Sure, but I didn't want to do that. So in the end the price was dictated by the quality of the piece and how many I think I can sell(I know I won't be selling 740 of these). PRICE $49.99

I will start a new FOR SALE thread when they come in.

So you mean this was not like the 1///M development where certain 'sacrifices' had to be made? Sign me up then, great job!

So you will have half the words on the ring upside down? I think that will look funny, wish you would have flipped the ONE part over so it was all readable.

The 'ONE' part is at the 12 o'clock position. The rest of the text continues on and 'wraps around'. I tried flipping the rest of the text and it actually looked odd. I utilized a lot of the advice while doing this and the majority has the biggest voice. All I can say us wait for the final product, you might like it

Text options?

I will make some changes in text depth they have requested to help the injection process and they told me that I should have a sample batch(required before they do actual production run) within 15 business days. 5 business day turnaround is available but for a 100% premium(I can not justify this).

Thanks again for your patience guys. These will not be available in the aluminum finish but tentatively will be available in GLOSS BLACK, ORANGE and GRAY....also in three different text options; ONE of 740 only, ONE of 740 BMW Motorsport Limited...[full text] and LIMTED EDITION only for other markets and non-M 1 series(because of several PM's I have received requesting this.)

Will we still have the above text options? Your recent post about ordering the first 100 seems to indicate no. Just curious. I'd prefer the minimalist approach, but will be buying one either way.

I don't want to take anybody's money until I see the part and I think people will be satisfied.

Yes, the factory contact person made it sound like I could have 3 cavities on a single mold and produce one of each with every press and save money. BUT, the mold almost tripled. The only way I could 'save' money is I was making thousands of these pieces. The biggest cost for our purposes is in the mold fabrication. So no go, sorry.

im sorry for not reading through the entire thread Metak. Question: are you doing any other color combinations? The orange is just not for me, but I really want something that blends in with the car. Would they consider doing one, maybe slightly different from the group of orange etc? Obviously I'd be willing to pay more for this...

I understand. The cost to switch colors is $200 for what they call 'color purging'. Obviously the more people that want Black for example, the cheaper per piece the premium will cost. 100 would be $2 each for the color change for example. I am almost certain I will do another 50-100 in a second color. Price will still be $49.99, just don't know what color yet? Probably black or gray(which even passed orange in the poll now) seems to be the consensus for those that don't like the orange accent. The gray might be nice and would match the gray dials in the cluster.

I suspect that may respondents chose gray because it appeared to be closest to the stock aluminized piece.

That's kind of what I was thinking as well. I'm very minimalist with any modifications...love the orange, but the orange stitching will fade over time anyway lol! So for me, sticking with the other accents within the interior is the way to go (personal preference of course).

I'll subscribe to the thread. Let us know if you do a second batch with a different color. Thanks for working on this! It's a very cool mod.

^will do. I can't order any other colors until I receive the first sample batch and 'approve' it. It's just their policy in case there is any flaws I am unhappy with. Then I can order 10k in whatever color!

That seems to be the second popular choice, maybe enough interest can be gathered to warrant such a piece.
