For that money, I think you should just keep it and just drive it like hell!

what happened to the awesome write up from the member who imported one to California? flights are $100 from ATL, and I may get divorced for doing so, but I'm considering flying and driving it back....

Then she composed herself and said OK, let's go get it. I have spoken with several people now that have done it and besides getting an amazing car, the best part of this is really driving a 1M cross country. These cars end up in garages and little Sunday jaunts, but everyone should at one point in their lives do a cross country trip in the 1M. Don't ship it, there are some beautiful roads along the way, beautiful scenery and great open road. So someone should do it! |

Guys, the borders are closed for tourism right now. Pretty sure you can't just fly and drive. |

Well I'm from Ontario [Canada] and here's my story. Presently the US$ is very strong compared to our C$. Hence so many people buying our cars. Back 10 years ago, the 2 dollars were just about equal and Canadians were buying in USA primarily for better selection and better prices. I've imported BMWs from Richmond Va, Hartford CT, Pittsburg PA and Brunswick GA.
One spring day in 2009 my wife came home and announced she had test driven a 09 135 and loved it so much, she though we could buy it. Well I'm a retired military living on a small pension and could never afford $53K. Besides the car was automatic and I didn't want twin turbos. I was getting enough speeding tickets with a single turbo Audi. Wife hounded me for well over a year about that car. Late one night in 2011 on cars.com, I see a 128 in the Sedona red she liked with manual trans and sport pkg in Brunswick GA and they're asking only $21,500. Private sale. Bought it-great people to work with. Sent me all the documentation I asked for, essentially maintenance records. I flew down to Jacksonville FL and the couple both took a day off work and picked me up at the airport (it's 1 hour away). The purchase went perfect. I left Brunswick about 4pm that same day for the 1250 mile drive back. I soon noticed 2 things "wrong" with the car. First a noise inside the car (turned out to be a pen rolling around in the center console), and I couldn't get the radio to work. There was a blank on the radio screen (you all can figure out this one). The whole drive was supremely enjoyable and something I'll remember well for the rest of my life. Thank you USA. I love these stories! The adventure / journey is half the fun and will bring you so many memories.
I am not sure if you can fly into Vancouver BC or not. I think the car would have to be shipped over to Washington State to the city of your choice and fly and drive from there. Blaine WA has storage facilities. TFX is still cross border shipping cars. |
