Repetitive clinking noise from below DCT
I recently had an engine failure and a full rebuild. I just got the car back and I am in the break in period. I went past half throttle for the first time and I hear a repetitive clinking noise that sounds like it is coming from the transmission area. This is a DCT N55. When the engine died the car was loaded on a tow truck and slid on, I did see the wheel move less than 1/4 turn as it was getting pulled on ( the tow truck driver couldn't get it in neutral)
I am not sure if there was damage to the transmission, if it was reinstalled incorrectly, or if there is somewhere else in the drive line that may be causing the noise. It sounds mechanical and not good. I know it's a long shot but any ideas on what it could be or what to look for?

Going completely blind, I'd guess something wasn't torqued correctly after your engine rebuild. I'm assuming they pulled the motor for the rebuild. Could be a myriad of things, but the shop that did the rebuild should be the one answering this question for you. I doubt a tiny bit of wheel rotation while in Park would destroy your tranny.

I'm having a similar issue with my 2008 135i. I just had my waste gates replaced/upgraded by my indy shop and picked it up last night and hear a ticking sound as I accelerate. Did not have that before the repair. I'm hoping it is something loose not torqued correctly.

Update: The sound was reverberations from a shroud above the driveshaft that was not tightened correctly. Car is driving well now.

Weird noises after a major job like that will very often = something not torqued correctly. Glad you are back on the road!
