Rear 261 style rims on front for track use
I'd like to run a square setup of 255/35 R18s using two sets of rear stock 261 style rims (8.5" wide). I'm running -2.0 degrees of camber all around and a TC Kline coil over kit (vorshlag plates).
I mounted the rears on the front and the sidewall rubs on the strut. I experimented with some washers (didn't drive it!) to check fitment. The spacers are about 9mm thick and it just clears the strut. The wheels turns OK, and I bounced up and down on the front and didn't see any rubbing. I'm sure I'm not applying enough force to compress the front, but I bet I could get away with a slight fender roll? Turner sells 10mm spacers with extended bolts. Any issues with going this route? Anyone done this before? Thanks! -Joe |

This is a popular square track setup.
Check out dcaron9999 and tuj on the forum.

I run this wheel but with the stock tire 245-35-18 with 12 mm spacer.
I had it with 15 mm spacer but it was rubbing on the fender under full shock travel. My suspension it's all stock. 10 mm spacer would work too as I can see I have about 4-7 mm clearance between tire and shock. If you want to go with 255 tire you might have other issues and different tires have different diameter and width. |

I ran coil-overs and camber plates and 15mm spacers to get it to fit. No fender roll or anything else. 245/40/18

Thank you tuj - do you think a 10mm spacer would work?
A 255/35 R18 tire is actually smaller in diameter, but wider. -Joe Last edited by joeo; 07-06-2016 at 05:00 PM.. |

It looks like the turner 10mm spacers are hub centric:
https://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-3...tions/?pdk=AgE I'm concerned that with the 12mm, the 255/35 tire will push out beyond the fender and there won't be anything I can do to prevent rubbing. -Joe |

Key point being the back of the spacer MUST be flush all around with the facing of the rotor hat. |

Over the last weekend I went to autocross event. This was test and tune not your normal competition therefore I got around 30 runs - it was fun. I was playing with tire pressure all day and rears (my stock run flats) were happy at around 40-42 PSI but the fronts was totally different story. I was using chuck to mark the side wall and started at 38 psi and with each run I kept rubbing my marks off up until 50 psi. I inspected the fenders and tires last night and noticed that both of the tires were rubbing on the fenders. One fender slightly more then other but both were rubbing and paint had rubbed off. My front tire is 245-35-18 Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sport. I think with small amount of additional camber I should be fine but that means I have to install camber plates or go with smaller tire. I was actually looking into 17" rims with 40 mm offset and 245-40-17 tires. Again, I'm not sure it that will be direct bolt on or I will still need to get camber plates or spacers. the difference will be wheel offset because the tire size is almost identical. |

Thanks for the info. Might be worth it to go with a 10mm spacer and potentially remove a little material from the lip to make it fit right. My concern there is keeping things balanced - or is that a valid concern?
The 245/35 tire is .2" smaller in diameter than a 255/35 size. The 255 is about .4" wider. I put the R888s up front last night with the washer spacers to check fitment. I'm running -2.0 degrees camber up front, and I don't think it will fit without more camber. I can run more camber, but with the 12.5mm spacer that might be too far out. Hard to say! -Joe |

I'm guessing the TC-Kline Coilover struts are a bit wider than stock (guessing, but I'm pretty sure I've read it confirmed somewhere around here). I run bilstein B8 struts with style 261s up front with Dinan Fixed camber plates, M3 control arms, 245/35/18 Michelin PSS and 7mm spacer and it fits with just the first layer of paint rubbing off of the bilstein struts. My car is also a lot lower than I would like with e90 swift springs over my bilsteins.

I now have 255/35 R18 tires fitting up front OK with the stock 8.5" rims. I did need to roll the front fender lip in, and grind away at a plastic tab. I don't have an exact measurement - but I would guess I'm at about -3.0 degrees camber. I was on the Shenandoah track at Summit Point which has a Karousel where pretty much anything will rub if it's going to rub. I did see some rub on the top of the fender liner, but raised the front of the car about 1/16". I think I'm rub free!
Roll tool: Tab I needed to grind down some: Running a square setup has some nice benefits! At this point I believe I could also run 245/35 R18s all around, but I don't think a 245/40 R18 would fit. A 245/40 is a larger diameter tire than a 255/35. For reference I have the TC Kline double adjustable coil overs with Vorshlag camber plates. -Joe |

No spacer in the rear with the factory size. I've since switched to a 17" rim square setup running 255/40 R17s. With no spacer in the rear, it will chew at the fuel filler. I recently went with stiffer springs 900 lb rear - 550 lb front and I'm no longer seeing any rubbing issues.
