Have you guys seen this new Recall for our 1M???

AUG 06, 2019 |
Recall Campaign No.19V-579
Blower Motor Wiring

Status: Remedy Available
Last Updated: AUG 12, 2019
Download

Description of Problem
This recall involves the wiring for the system, known as the blower-motor, that controls air flow for the heating and air conditioning system. Over time, the connection between the wiring and this system could deteriorate and, in rare cases, could lead to overheating.

Safety Risk
If overheating occurs, this could further lead to a short circuit or melting at the connection. In extremely rare cases, this could lead to a fire.

Description of Repair
The wiring will be inspected and a new part will be installed. Additional components will be replaced, if necessary, as determined at the time of repair.

This recall has been going on for quite a while on E90 and E82. Guess the next round of years are now being done. My 2013 still has not been added to the recall, and has the old style connector. Will get recalled at some point.

Anyone know how they repair it? Everytime I take my car to the dealer they scratch or damage something. Wondering what they take apart. Is it the AC bezel or under the passenger dash?

Hopefully this is accessed from under the hood, below the cowl.

Under the dash, behind the glovebox.

I just heard back from my SA, and he said that this recall does not apply to my 1M.

I spoke to my service advisor at BMW, who also owns a 1M. He told me the recall is presently only for the early cars and not the later ones. He wasnt sure if mid way through the build they made some changes to the parts or not. He told me he would keep me in the loop if our cars (the later build) needed it too.

The paperwork says "potentially affected" but I assumed that was to cover themselves in terms of some may have already burnt up, some may not. I didn't realize it was a possible part change. The paperwork does says "produced between Nov 1, 2007 and Sep 5, 2011" though. BTW, if you want to check your car you can enter your VIN into the BMW site and see what comes up. https://www.bmwusa.com/safety-and-emission-recalls.html

Your SA is probably the same SA as mine

My car was originally Canadian, and was produced the very beginning of September (9/1/2011). It should be in the recalled group, unless the Canada-bound vehicles were different.

I have checked the NTSA and BMW websites and my VIN doesn't come back as having been recalled.

I also just went to the BMW.CA website and did a recall lookup on that site, and my VIN # doesn't show up there as having a recall, either.

Just got the letters for both my 1M's. I'm going to complete one and let the other sit as is.

Yep! I got mine as well.

Although, I'm in no big rush to have this done. I'll just do it next time I take it into the dealership for service.

I had mine taken care of as soon as I could. After reading a few posts about 3series burning to the ground from this I didn’t want to take any chances.

Who has had this done? What exactly does it entail?

Is it a simple fix or are they ripping a lot out to get to it?

Thanks!!!
