Congrats to the OP! I'm still waiting for an allocation here...

On the subject of split-folding rear seats, I believe the show car at NAIAS in Detroit did have split-folding rear seats. In fact, it even had a ski pass-through, which was simply a panel that can be removed, and I remember clearly that it did not fit very well into the rear seats. I won’t miss the ski pass-through though, but I would certainly be disappointed if they got rid of the split-folding rear seats.

I didn't check whether or not the car had the Homelink button, but I believe it was never offered on the 1M...

Right on, first US delivery. Sounds like the only major disappointment is the exhaust/engine sound, but nobody should be too surprised there...it's an N54 with a sports exhaust. It's not going to have the hardcore rasp of an S54 or the S65's bassy Pro-Stock'ish V8 howl. It's one of the slight bummers about the 135i also. A little too refined sounding, pissed off sewing machine or kitchen blender comes to mind. It's sporty but nothing seriously exotic or spine tingling like say a 3.4 liter Cayman S, RS4 or Z06 with pipes.

I'd be very curious how the power delivery compared to my car though. Sometimes you get a big hit of torque right where it needs to be, and sometimes you hit a flat spot where not much happens between hammer 1/2 down and hammer full down which is a software tuning thing I'm sure. (I've never driven a tuned 135i to compare). I wonder if the 1M delivers in that sense.

To the OP take a picture of the open trunk from further back. The car at the Detroit show and at the Toronto show both had it.
You are right. I guess I was too busy thinking about driving to notice.

Sorry to scare you guys. Anyone have any clues on where to find the Homelink?

So, BMW, if you're listening, stop being jerkoffs. I would make sure you get BOTH of these things (well, the homelink can be included in the premium package) back on the 1M before you lose some customers, myself included.

I completely agree. I once bought a new 330 Coupe and sold it within a year because it did not have the rear folding seats. At the time the salesman told me that it had them and I was stupid enough to buy it without checking to see if it really had them. Was my fault for taking his word for it and not checking.

These two rear pictures seem quite different. One shows a latch while the other one does not.

After completing Mothers Day obligations and the guests left, I went for a long drive. It confirmed most of what I said above. In the MDM mode, I am realizing that I am very far from the cars limits. It is really addicting to drive, in a restrained but very competent way. This car is amazingly well balanced. The engine, brakes, suspension and transmission all excel on their own. But together, they really complement each other. It is clear the engineers put a lot of effort into the total package. All the parts work so well together.

I'm proud to make the front page of Bimmerfile but embarrassed by the Costco parking lot photo. On the way home I ended up on PCH near sunset. I passed the beach and had to turn around to take some pictures. I think the photos below start to do the car some justice. Excuse the dirt but my first priority is to drive the car. The last photo shows the car lurking in the moonlight.

It's just the difference in angle of the photo. The lach is there, as well as the egg on my face.

It's not even April 1st! I took that hook, line, and sinker. That was my biggest whining web rant ever so I'm feeling just a bit gullible (happy, but gullible). Glad you did not string us on too long.

I'd like homelink, but I need folding seats, time to break out the remote.

That reminds me of the story of the lady who wanted to trade in her year old Mercedes SL. She told the salesman she regretted not buying the convertible. The salesman thought for a bit but did the right thing and showed her the switch for the retractable hard top.

AW 1M, nice! And I thought Crevier isn't releasing the cars until Monday. I will be picking mine up tomorrow afternoon!

Just for comparison, I thought this early 1970's 3.0 CSL had exaggerated wheel arches. But they are minimal compared to the 1M.

I definitely see the family resemblance of the glass area and outlines of the cars.

And it also shows the long history of orange BMW performance editions.

And a white 2002turbo. I had a white 1971 2002 (non turbo) in high school. So my 1M had to be white.

When the 1 series coupe came out they said is was the reincarnation of the 2002. So is the 1M the reincarnation of this car? Not a bad heritage.

Those wheel arch extensions look like they could have been the inspiration for the 1M's.

This is the best I could come up with for an old black BMW.

Notice the car on the wall behind. Look familiar?
