If you get the cage built - you might just have a sellable product on your hand. One that would work for all e82s.

here are some pics of mine.
i took out the rear seats and now just waiting to get the rear covered up so it looks a bit nicer than now. its also bolted and not welded so everything can be reversed to stock.

(if anyone is interested: those seats - bmw performance seats - are up for sale as i will put in recaro pp - PM me)

Ace11 and Advevo, what were your criteria for choosing the designs of your respective roll cages? I am looking for a half cage myself and rather like the one offered by BRR and especially its modular bolt on design (I am yet to hear from them, not sure why it takes them so long to reply).

So I would really appreciate if you shared what was this you were looking for in your cages. Thx!

I have done a lot of research.

I wanted a clubsport cage for multiple reasons.

I wanted to drive with a 6 point harness but i wanted the safety that in an accident the roof won t come down.

And i really like the idea of a clubsport car. I have owned a Porsche 997 GT3 clubsport The GT3 with Race seats in combination with clubsport cage and 6 point harness ads a lot to the fun factor. I sold the car because i don t like the handling of the car with the engine in the back. But i knew i must put something together in my 1M.

I also liked the fact how the M3 GTS is build. But the car is way to expensive for what it is and it s to big for my liking. I like smaller agiler cars like the 1M coupe. And if Bmw does not build 1M Clubsport i need to build it myself.

So then 1M coupe Clubsport AdvEvo edition has to be build

I looked at several clubsport cages but none ticked my boxes. I wanted to have cage which is wealded together like a real cage. I only want it bolted on the car not bolts in the pipes that looks not professional.

A cage simular to the GTS one that would be my choice. But i didn t want any welding on my car(GTS need bracket welding) The cage is the only thing which is welded together. So it would be a custom made one.

I have been looking in my car for points were it could be perfectly mounted on the chassis and toghether with the Rollcage builder we found for us the perfect solution.

I got out the rear seat where you sit in. But i leave the back in and flip it down, so i get nice clean look and don t need make more work out of it to put in a flat planel and again welding brackets in it.

It got 2 crosses like the GTS and 2 bars for the 6 point harness behind my seat. It can be put in thru the doors and it can be completely removed and make the car factory original again.

The colour is gonna be Black. I thought about white like the car but i like the fact that with the dark windows you can hardly see the cage from the outside.

I am very happy how the cage is build. It was ready today. It just need a coating. Next week it will be bolted in. When it s ready i put up more pics.

Awesome work on the cage! I love how it's all one piece.

Please elaborate.
I removed the heavy seats with airbags from my MINI and added a race seat
If I remember correctly a 5 ohm resistor was used.
I'm not sure how to do it on the 1M.
Would it be possible for you to ask your mechanic (a DYI would be perfect...)?

I thought it was an 3 ohm resistor he mounted it into the yellow connector under the seat.

My criteria were almost exactly like Advevo's. But since I hardly ever take anybody with me and don't ever use the rear seats I decided to take them out completely. Mine is also bolted on and not welded. Instead of 2 crosses, I have a cross in the rear and a diagonal bar with a harness bar up front. I will be running Recaro PP with a 4 point harness.

IF I'll ever want to sell my 1M I can easily take out the cage and put back the seats in the rear to make it stock again.

Ace11

Question have you consider to make the gap to the trunk closed with some kind of plate for the extra sound comming from rear. Or is it acceptable?

I have also removed my back seat completely. First i wanted the back to go down to give a nice clean look. But it s so heavy to leave it in just for the looks. So got it out today.

It is definitely louder without the back seats. But I love my exhaust note so I will not cover it up. All I will do is make it look nice again and cover up the bottom part - but the rear (to the trunk) will remain open.

Glad you decided to take out the rear seats. They really are heavy IMO.

Advevo, Ace11, Thanks for sharing your perspectives as regards the roll cages. I seem to have warmed up to the idea of having a welded cage that would bolt on, but, nonetheless, be a one-pice welded construction as opposed to having a modular design. A modularity as offered by the BRR racing is extremely neat if someone indeed uses the rear seats. I can hardly think of an occasion when I had passengers in the rear and especially so now that I am having the SPG XLs installed. Thanks for sharing your pictures and ideas. Thats was definitely very useful.
