Doesn't really matter to me, most of my recent cars have had a sunroof, but hardly ever use it. Not a deal breaker either way.

I've seen my fair share of sunroof failures. That's why in older models when you still got a decent tool kit you always got the hand crank to manually close it when it the motor failed. Also seen severe flood damage from failed or left open roofs.

I would prefer to not have a sunroof. Its nice, but it adds a substantial amount of weight to the car way above the CoG which is a negative for performance.

I ordered mine specifically without a sunroof to increase the structural rigidity of the frame and, in my mind, improve handling and performance.
If this is not the case don't tell me. I'm enjoying my "improved" performance very much. |

Im getting ready to delete my sunroof. I never use it and it is extra weight. As TheSt|G mentioned, there could also be future reliability issues.

I love mine. In the winter, the shades always open letting the sunlight in. In the spring and fall, absolutely love having if fully open enjoying the day.

At the beginning, I missed having a sunroof since my previous car, an E36, had one, but I've gotten over it... And my E36 had a real, steel sunroof, not the glass moonroof they offer nowadays.

My previous car, a Honda, developed a crack in the rubber gasket surrounding the sunroof which lead to interior water damage after one stormy night. One of the few perks of ordering a Canadian spec 135i, sunroof was still optional. I said "Thanks, but no thanks!" on that check box. Really just a way to further nickle and dime us Canucks. |

Strange?!?! The sunroof is not supposed to be water tight, they are designed to leak. There are four drains around the moonroof in the drip tray to collect the water and let it run to the ground. Your drains must have been plugged.

I orderd my 128i w/o the sunroof. I ordered/bought this car with no frills, except the sport seats. I don't miss a sunroof at all. I always had a sunroof on all of my numerous 3 series and X series Bimmers, but I never used it.
This car will be a keeper, and I wanted it as basic/maintenance free as possible. I love this car. It's simple, elegant, sporty, nostalgic (2002 tii), not omnipresent like the 3 series. Cheers/BB

Here in the UK, the sunroof was an extra cost option and a very expensive one at that (£1000) so a 135i with a sunroof is quite a rare think over here.
I didn't want one anyway, for all the reasons already mentioned, weight, headroom issues with a crash helmet one, and plus I'd never use it anyway.

We'll since this is my first post I would like to say hello. I will be picking my black 128i Ina couple weeks if all of my customs paperwork goes through. I live in Germany and I'm in the US Army. I specifically picked my car because it didn't have a sunroof. I got a base model with the upgraded Harmon kardon stereo system and manual transmission. I personally don't like sunroofs or moon roofs and that's why I picked the one I did.

I really wanted xenon so I had to get the premium package and ended up with sunroof. I am a little scared of all the additional things that the premium package added that can potentially break more so than just having the sunroof but I'm having too much fun driving the car so it doesn't bother me too much.

My 1M Coupe is the first ever car I've owned in 30yrs (not including two race cars that didn't have it) that hasn't either had a sunroof / moonroof or been a convertible. I miss it a lot. Granted, I have absolutely no issues with headroom while wearing a helmet while attending lapping sessions, and that was frankly the point of purchasing the 1M. But, as a daily-driver now, it sucks not being able to see the sun, vent the sunroof for air, or have it open all the way.
Our 135i Coupe does have a sunroof (specifically so), and while I had to adjust my seating position for lapping events (retired from that now, as the 1M is filling that roll), I enjoy driving it on the street just that much more.

My 135i was the first car I ever had with a Sunroof. I would not have spec'd it that way but it was sitting on the lot with all of the options I wanted, in the colour I wanted, and they didn't charge me for the sunroof (optional in Oz and costs about $3,000).
Having said that I REALLY loved having it. I would have it at least "popped" f not open most of the time... When I got the 1M I did miss it (and still do sometimes) but then I just put my foot down and forget all about it PS: My semi-regular rear-seat passengers prefer no sunroof as they enjoy the extra headroom... |
