Car was Keyed. cost of repair?
yeah my car was keyed, about a 4 inch key scratch, deep enough that it is felt when touched. i was wondering if anybody knew how much it was maybe going to cost to repair it. Its jet black by the way, any one else had to buff out some bad scratches?

Eh your car can get keyed anywhere.. You'd have to keep your car locked in your garage forever if you wanted to avoid that.
On topic.. which panel got keyed? Depending on where you take it, they may try to fill in the scratch and smooth it out but its likely that you'll still be able to see it by looking close.. You'll probably have to get the entire panel repainted

Thats what happened to me. When I brought my car ibnto the body shop after my hit I asked them to fill in a chip from someone opening their door into me. He said the whole panel might as well have been keyed. In order to do it right its a full stripping and repainting of the panel.

Sorry to hear about that...such a low-life thing to do.
I've seen a long keymark across two panels get sanded and repainted, solid black, came out brand new. the metallics are the colors that are very hard to match. My wife's 06 civic got keyed on 4 panels, silver metallic so we pretty much had to sand them out and repainted the whole car. But with flat black you might be able to get away with a repair job instead of painting the entire panel. I guess it depends on the panel. |

You can't buff out scratches that are below the paint......I would guess that the keying went down to the primer or maybe even the metal. Only option is to paint it.
