Going in for a scheduled oil change, take out JB3 or leave at Map 0?
I'm due for an oil change, and wondering if I should take out the JB3, or simply keep it at Map 0 and instruct the dealer to do nothing else other than an oil change (i.e. no software upgrade, scan, etc.)
On the other hand, just got the 2.0 cable and software, so I recon that requires me to open up the ECU box anyhow, right? That, coupled with the fact that I installed myself the car alarm which needs programming makes me lean towards taking out the JB3 (plus less risk of detection). Any thoughts?

I will leave it in, set it to map 0, use BT scanner to remove any tuner codes and take it in as is.

If you have ANY other mods that would suggest you like aftermarket performance, TAKE IT OUT! If the car is otherwise completely stock, I'd still take it out, but you likely are a bit safer. The really safe thing is to take it out either way. Why risk it?

Mods are as per siggie. They can't deny warranty or blacklist the car for a downpipe-back exhaust (midpipe+axel back), the suspension is a BMW product, only thing they can get suspicious about is the Rixster boost gauge (and not seen anyone denied of warranty because of it), but I will have that one switched off and they probably won't even notice it's there. Drop in ffilter is going in after I get her back.

It takes 15 mins to take it out.. I take mine out everytime since it honestly isn'"t a hassle.. so if you could id suggest taking it out because I don't think anyone of of us wants to see your next thread title "warranty voided because of Tune".

I wouldn't worry about it. I've been going to the same dealership with aftermarket intakes on my cars for 5 years and never once had a problem.

However, make that a twisty road or actual circuit, the RS4 slaughters the 135i (and most other cars for that matter), especially since I have the Stasis Ohlin adjustable coilovers with the remote reservoirs. It completely transformed the car and compensated/neutralized the nose heaviness of the B7 platform. Both cars are very rewarding, but in different ways. One is a high strung and visceral 8200rpm V8 soundtrack, the other is a torque monster forced induction pocket rocket. No subsitutes, but rather perfect complements

I am pretty sure I will do that, especially since I need to load 2.0 so have to be going to the ECU box anyhow. And will use the opportunity for them to program my alarm (which works for the most part without the software btw).
In my experience, I have generally found the local dealers to be aficionados of tastefully modded cars and generally complement you. With that said, you never know if there is a regional rep roaming around the premises that day, or some tech that has a sour mood that day and wants to make someone else feel equally miserable...

I'm glad everyone has "mod-friendly" dealers that they go to for service who make them feel all warm and fuzzy. Might I offer a quick word of advice? Don't mistake their kindness for weakness. Just because they haven't said anything to you, doesn't mean you don't have a note in your file.
Trust me, when the shit hits the fan, their tone will change on the topic. Guaranteed. Take out your tune/clear codes... With all other mods, boost gauges/DPs/Exhaust/Suspension at least you have a fighting chance if your car starts falling apart. If you've got a tune under the hood, all bets are off. |

def take it out, as soon as they see the boost gauge, they will get suspecious. also make sure to clear any boost peaks in the gauge, you dont want them playing w/ it and see you were running 14psi

I noticed on my first service that they had "Aftermarket Intake installed" in the comments section. They do take notes! Seems like a no brainer to me. Take it out.

Thx for the tip. I have never had any fault lights come up, is it possible there are some stored codes that will alert them of a tune? Might as well just hook up the BT and clear everything (even though as I mentioned nothing ever popped up visually).

some shadow codes do not throw a cel or ses.. so do check it with the BT. One of the first things the dealer does is hook the car up to their GT1.
And take the tune out, be safe.
