Everyone is going to tell you to only use OEM parts.

I agree. That being said, I'd say just look at the reviews. I know there are a ton on the eBay and Amazon. When stuff doesn't work, ppl complain about it. That's literally what the internet is for. Find the one with the least complaints. It'll probably be the OEM one.

Vanos Solenoid:
I once bought Vaico which is normally a good brand.
But they failed right out of the box and made it even worse.
Also cleaning didnīt work.
Go with original ones and you should be fine.

Disa:
I installed Bavarian Autosport without any issues.

I believe 11 61 7 560 538 is the larger unit and is accessible on the outside of the manifold. Can it be replaced without removing the manifold?

A number of you tube videos show how to bench test them.

You certainly can
You can also replace the small inner DISA by removing the alternator. Much quicker than removing intake manifold.

Yeah there's loads of 2 litre petrol and diesel e8x's and e9x's in yards aswell. They're nowhere near as reliable as n52
