dinan muffler Installed!

I just installed my muffler today! Sounds pretty aggressive! I have headers, no secondary cats, no resonator, and the dinan muffler. Here’s a pic of the tips!

Anxiously waiting to hear this cause I got this Dinan exhaust when I saw it on sale for half off. I have a muffler delete that drones but still have the secondary cats and resonator and wondering if I should delete the cats when I have the exhaust installed.

Is this the 135i exhaust? I'm not seeing any 128i exhaust on Dinan's site.

Thanks! There’s a lot going on there given that you have headers, and no resonator and secondary cats so it’s difficult for me to get a sense of what the exhaust is doing. You should rev it

What tune did you end up going with?

Also, where did you get it installed? Looks fantastic!

Just dropped off my 128i off to get the dinan muffler installed. My car has no mods other than the muffler delete that I am un-deleting.

Should get it back in a few days and I’ll make sure to post videos for the cold start and revs.

Getting some driveway work done so had to do it on the street. Got the car back on Tuesday and I think it’s breaking in nicely.

A couple of quick takeaways since adding the exhaust:
  • The drone from the muffler delete is completely gone. I didn’t realize how much I hate the drone until I no longer had to hear it.
  • The Dinan spec is for the tips to come out about 1/8” past the bodywork. Mine is more like 1 1/4” and I asked the installer about this. He said this is where it sits when it’s on the stock mounts. Does the 135i rear diffuser stick out more? My car is an m sport so I assumed they were the same.
  • Overall, very happy. The right amount of grunt for a dad car. Though, I’m curious how a secondary cat delete would sound.

Awesome sound. I also drive a 128i with a muffler delete and have been contemplating putting a muffler back on. I checked the Dinan website and asked one of the reps - they said they don't have a 128i exhaust option. I am assuming the 135i exhaust will fit the 128i? Is this the one you bought?

To your third point, if you have headers.. not much louder with a secondary cat-delete.. only slightly smellier. It only gets really loud on WOT

I had to take it to a fab shop and they had to flare the existing pipe on the 128i because a 135i pipe is about 1/2” wider in diameter. Now it fits right on with the clamps Dinan provided.
