where does this go?

OK - this is a tough one and I will be amazed and impressed if somebody comes up with the answer.

This little piece of rubber was sitting right next to the rad when I opened the hood on my 128i. It is small only 1 inch in length.

I scoured RealOEM but could not find it.

Anybody know where it goes?

It goes on the inside edge of your hood. They are rubber bump stops to prevent metal on metal contact. The little one(2nd pic) goes up front about six inches from the front of the hood. The other one sits further down closer to the driver - also on the edge of the hood.

Just checked under my hood and I only have one so I ordered a few of them so I would have some extra because they'll probably fall off again. lol

Thanks for P/N Dackelone.

Wow! I am impressed... thanks!
RealOem only show quantity 2 but are you saying there should be 2 on each side for a total of 4?

I'll be damned. I think you may have just found my random vibration/rattle over rough pavement in the engine compartment. Went out to check and I'm missing that bumper on the drivers side. Thanks Dackel!

I didn't see a slot for more than one on each side of the hood.

You know at first I was reluctant to post this up. I thought no one will know what this part is and no one will care.

Boy was I wrong...Dackelone responded with 10 minutes!
Not only did this help me out but may have solved a problem for PDXE82. This just goes to show the value of this forum and I really appreciate the support.

I just ordered 4 of the little buggers from ECS, they are $1.21 each. It gives me great pleasure to fix little things like this on my car!

Yes, that's where I ordered mine. They slip off and get lost so it's good you ordered a couple extra.

Can anyone confirm exactly where they go and which direction?
There is a spot where the lip/seam splits into two and it seems like it should go there?
Does the longer side with the two flaps go on the inside?
Thanks!

No, only one, per side. The rubber part shown in your 2nd pic goes at the front of the hood side/seam. Your 1st pic is another(I think) rubber grommet.

I will take some pics of my hood tomorrow.

Sorry for the confusion - the pictures are of the same grommet, just different angles.

If you look at the first picture you see that one side is longer and is kinda "T" shaped. Since it is not symmetrical it must have a proper placement.

Thanks in advance for your help!

There is only one section along the side edge of the hood where outer and inner skins have a split/gap, about 10cm in lenght and approximately 30cm away from the front.
The rubber bumper is placed with the "thicker" side into the cavity so it gets lodged in there safely. If you then slide it towards the back as far as it goes it seems to secure it in place a bit better.

I also need a manicure, it seems

Ok guys, I remembered to take pics of my under hood rubber bump stops today. I don't know what I was thinking but there are only ONE rubber stops, one at each front part of the hood edge. Not two on each side - as I originally posted.

Here are my pics...

Dackelone, yours appear to be installed differently than vinylengraver's. Which is the correct way? Does it really matter?

Damn... your right! It looks like mine might be installed backwards. The right side(drivers) I had lost a while back... I had ordered a new one and installed it and not given it a second thought until now!! I would think the flat side goes outwards, though.

I guess tomorrow I will have to look at the left(passenger) side one and see.

I'm pretty sure mine are installed correctly...
Another picture found on this forum confirms that (disregard the circle around the latch but note the position/orientation of the rubber bumpers.)
