Thermal Image of Heated Seats (Problem!)
I love the heated seats in my 135i especially how fast they would warm up. I could never have the seat set to the highest setting as it got too uncomfortable for me even in very cold weather. Well, about three weeks ago I had the heated seats on the lowest setting and it got so hot that I had to shut it off. I didn't think much of it until last week when I turned the seat on and it didn't get hot at all. I set it to the highest setting and it didn't change at all. The passenger seat still works the same. So to make sure I wasn't crazy I took some thermal images of the seats.
The first pic is the passenger seat at less than 1 minute time. The second pic is both the driver and passenger seat together. In this image both seats are set to the highest setting for about 10 minutes. You can see the difference in seat temp. The driver seat never got hotter than 71 degrees but you can see the passenger seat was much hotter, actually it got to 102 degrees. The last pic is the driver seat with the temp scale increased which still shows the seat at around 71 degrees. So anyway, the car is going to the dealer for an oil change, the HPFP replaced and now a check of the heated seats. P.S - I thought it was cool how many coils BMW puts in our seats. My GF Lexus did even come close but her seats have both Heat and AC. |

Love my heated seats. Especially on a nippy day with the top down.
Haven't had any problems with them. Highest setting is toasty indeed, but not so much that they are uncomfortable. |

Nice pic!
That's really to hot!! Almost like a grill ;-) (I always wanted to know to which hight the heated parts are at the back of the chair. My shoulders are not heated i think. Do you have a picture of that too?) |

I bet that this will be the first time that a customer brought thermal images to the service department to prove a point.
My E36 only had heat pads in the center of the bottom and back. No bolster heat.

If you look at the second pic you can see that the heated coils go up the side of your lats and across your shoulder blades. Depending on your size I would assume that it hits different people differently. Other than having a heated blanket, I dont think your going to get your entire shoulder, LOL. J/K. Yeah, no doubt. The guy who does a lot of them up here has a scalpless procedure. But, don't confuse that with painless!!!
