Mixing motor oils?
Hello. I had a question about mixing oils. I usually use Mobil 1 0w40 but Amazon just raised the price. Castrol edge 0w40 is now on sale at $23/5Qts. I have about 4x1qt of the Mobil 1 left. Would it be ok to use 5qts of the Castrol and 1.5 Qts of the mobil1 for my next oil change? Or rather, would YOU do that? Both oils are 0w40 and LL-01 approved, European car formula.
Thanks |

hey there,
so my 30 or so years of driving cars, (and insofar as the expereince of long term use of them) 10 years with my 944 as an example ppl will tell you "not to mix oils" an TBH I always tried to have spare quart of what ever oil I changed in the boot, just in case, however I have mixed oils and in cases of emergency grades did my engine blow... no, did performance suffer ...no, did I experience any kind of issues... no so, the moral of the story is no don't mix oils, but real world experience I've NEVER noticed any issues HTH and in your case, NO PROBLEM |

I just would not get in the habit of doing something like this all the time. API specs require that all oils can be mixed, but it doesn't mean that it is optimal for engine wear. |
