Got the wheel today:

It's gorgeous. Slightly thicker than the M-Sport Wheel and really nice to touch.

The stitching is very pretty.

Also got the CF trim that I "accidentally" bought... Think I'm gonna put it up here for sale as I have the Grey Poplar interior and I don't think they'll go well together...

Tonight will be spent installing it...

Wheel looks good mate, definitely the best option IMO. I agree with you on the CF looks abit tacky to me. Are you going to use your existing DCT paddles with the wheel? Do you know if they will fit?

Yup - re-using the existing Paddles. Everything I can find says the'll fit. If nothing else, the fact that the performance wheel V2 fits with both the 135i DCT & the M3 would suggest that they will.

Every picture I can find shows the same mount points and cut-out size/shape.

PS: Just ordered the M3 Trim from Tischer so that CF Trim is up for grabs. Rey's already PM'd me so he's got "Limited Time Dibs"

So... Home. Steering wheel time...

Disconnected Battery
Popped Back Seat (just in case I closed the boot without thinking)
Turned on Headlights (to get rid of any residual charge)
Took me a while to get the Airbag out
Some of the connectors were a bit fiddly to detach
There's an extra ground wire that wasn't in any of the DIYs
Unclipping the Paddle Shift cables was a BITCH
Removed old Wheel

Re-assembled everything on new Wheel
Put Wheel back in Car
Reconnected Airbag and re-inserted
Reconnected Battery

Start Engine.

TRANSMISSION FAULT - TAKE TO BMW
Car won't come out of Park
SHITSHITSHITSHITSHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Call Stuart (bmroxm5), who's done heaps of these
No answer
SHITSHITSHITSHITSHIT!!!!!!!

OK, lets try again

Disconnect Battery
Remove Steering Wheel
Unplug and reseat all connectors
Reinstall Steering Wheel
Connect Battery

Start Engine
.
..
....
......
Everything is OK. No Faults.
Take it for a drive.
All good...

Stuart calls me back. "Oh yeah, that happens sometimes. It's just a loose connector somewhere. Go back in and check everything."

Need counselling now...

Piccies:

Beer time.

PS: Thanks to Stuart for calling me back. If I hadn't managed to fix it I would have been suicidal...

Looks the goods Angus. You're a bad influence on me though because I want one now!

Btw, I always stress when install doesn't go right the first time as well. Glad you got yours sorted

Oh that looks gorgeous.... I know everyone loves the Performance steering wheel range but IMO, the OEM M3 one is the best. Also glad the paddles fitted because the M3 ones are fugly.

What do you mean M3 trim?

Thanks I think it's a better choice if "not race car"

...and it's different...

This is the M3 trim:

It's pretty much the same but has that indent running down the centre.

The Red and Blue stitches look so much more classy than bathmat and yellow tape. I get you now about the M3 centrepiece but what are you going to replace with that M button?

True. I've never been a fan of the bathmat look...

Nah... It's just the trim. I'm re-using my buttons...

That looks awesome Angus! I've seen and felt Stuart's M3 wheel- it's very tempting!
The carbon trim looks good in isolation but I agree it'd look out of place with the wood.

Panic stations when mods go wrong is all part of being OCD

Definately certified OCD Angus when you are buying trim pieces just because it has an additional small groove!
M3 wheel looks great!

You like it THICK and SOFT hey.... ?

Looks good - I would have loved to see you shit your pants haha glad you got it sorted out.

I remember installing procede on Honny's car and then it wouldn't start, went to panic mode!

Hmmm if only you were local I could have driven down to see if the carbon trim will match my other cf wrap trim....

Tempting....

I think it would work well with the Aluminium or Silver Trim though...

Looks the goods!

Paddles look very close to the back of the wheel though... how are they ergonomically?

They're actually exactly the same as on the previous wheel. The DCT paddles are much closer than the M3 ones.

I think they're more ergonomic that way

Haha yeah all of us were in panic mode since we needed to use the car straight away but its the price of distraction.....

Harley, if I remember correctly when I drove on the M3 awhile back I was told the steering wheel over time would slightly mould with where you grip, its just the nature of the soft leather which I find much nicer than the M-Sport ones.
