Help Unmarrying Cobb
I stupidly overwrote my Cobb (ptf) tune with MHD and now the cobb wont recognize the car anymore so I cant un-marry it. The guy from MHD suggested this:
Start a flash with MHD, then pull the cable once it has started (once the flashing percentage progresses). Remove the key. ECU will be in recovery mode. Then plug the cobb, it should propose to recover the ECU. Then you should be able to unmarry it, leaving you with the original cobb backup. I was a bit worried that i might brick the car but he said that wont happen and I tried it but it did not work and the cobb still wont recognize the ecu. I was able to reflash the MHD tune back so the car is working. Any ideas? I cant sell the cobb if I cant unmarry it. |

I don't remember exactly what happened, but I had the same thing happen when my battery died mid unmarry. The COBB no longer recognized the vehicle. You will need a new license key from COBB. If you can prove you are the original purchaser of the AccessPort you can send it to them and they will relicense it. I think they reduced the re-licensing fee to like like $40-60. It took some debate on their ethics to get them to do that. The COBB seems very poorly designed in that it makes itself useless for legitimate users of the device.

Did you purchase it from an authorized dealer? I did and almost the same thing happened to me. Talked to Cobb and the conversation was rather frustrating. They said I caused it and I did. But come on $300 usd for me to mail you something that takes less then a half hour for them to fix???? and thats after the $700 usd I paid for it. I trashed it and sold all my Cobb parts. theres people like me that like to keep most their mods by the same company like Cobb, but after this experience I don't mind changing. Honestly I've never been happier. I run jb4 g5 with mhd back end and tuning wise wow.
