What surprises me about all these tunes is how smooth the disa bumps are with the evolve tune versus the competitors. I've seen 125i dyno graphs that have the swap and 130i map making 221 whp but the disa bumps are very obvious on the graph. Compared to a 128i ( same platform with the manifold swap) making the same power numbers but with far less torque drop when the disa valves open and close. Evolve is the only company I have seen proof of this. They have found a way to smooth out the transitions and subsequently you get more power under the curve. Which will translate to more torque in the mid range. I'm torn between the evolve tune and a local tuning shop because they both claim the same power gains and " unnoticeable disa bumps" ...

I think you answered your own question. One you have demonstrable evidence of, the other is a claim.

Yeah I've pretty well decided. I'm about a quarter the way there in saving up. So in the next couple months I should be good to go.

This is what the local tuner is offering. He states it will be little higher but cannot guarantee anything. He doesn't have a dyno either.......
( this dyno was done at another shop and then given to the tuner, and it's a 125i)

His dyno at least looks honest.

That being said, the torque dips look essentially unchanged.

.. well this is my AA graph(no headers, just disa and AAstage2) and i don't have any significant dips anywhere in the range. it only smoothened out more with headers.

So obviously AA or evolve at are good choices, just depends on whether or not you want to send your ecu in?

The main reason i chose AA over Evolve at the time was because AA had the simon tool for $250 off, which made the simon tool and tune $600 shipped, compared to $900 for evolve.

Neither makes you send your ECU in.

It's the scale you have the graph on. Zoom in, set the max power to be at 225hp and RPM scale to 7000.

Good point, i never even thought about it. It's a bit of a pain to get dyno sheets from the shop since they're about an hour away from me but i'll see what i can do.

Been looking at Hondas lately lol. It's so sad that's all we can make! Those guys over there with the new k20 in the 2013 si are making big number with a just a intake manifold swap and injectors and tune! I'm super jealous lol

Change the cams to something that has higher than 10MM lift, beef up the valvetrain to run cam on (you'll probably have to remove valvetronic, I hear it's too bulky) and extend the redline up to about 8000rpm. You'll also want to port the head, I doubt the current one flows enough CFM and fabricate the intake manifold to handle the airflow.

You'll also want the headers to to be custom made and spec'd to your cams. It can done and when it is, you'll make more power than a K20/24 and have more torque.

And the likelihood of any of that happening/being a good idea.....

Do wish Schrick made cams for our cars. Already would be on the way.

Someone asked, I just gave an answer. But it can be done, give this platform a few years..then again with the move to turbo from N/A, I don't know that it will get any better...
