Have I mentioned how much I love Mexican comida...?

Freshly made Guacamole en la molcajete can be a meal in itself for me with some fresh chips!

Oh nice thanks for the heads up. I'll pass on Bob's then.

Speaking of restaurants near the W, there's a little place called Taverna ( http://www.tavernabylombardi.com/ ) that I would not recommend. If you're familiar with La Condesa, I'm sure you've at least passed by Taverna before. I went there for lunch many months ago for the first (and only) time and I ordered their risotto with parmesan cheese and truffle oil and it was absolutely ghastly.

Excessive use of truffle oil is a huge red flag for me because it tells me that the restaurant doesn't know what the fuck it's doing. Truffle oil is cheap, bitter tasting garbage that has little to no relation to actual truffles besides smelling somewhat similar. It's a product that's systematically scoffed at by Michelin star-level chefs. It's doubtful that you'll find a bottle of truffle oil in a 5 star kitchen.

I'm a huge italian food buff and so I might give the place another try (there's a location in Dallas/Fort Worth), but if you ever go to Taverna do not get anything that has truffle oil in it. They completely overdo it not realizing that truffle oil tastes disgusting.

The online reviews are OK (3.5 stars yelp, 4.2 stars google reviews) but my risotto dish was so bad that I've never gone back. I sent it back to the kitchen 70% uneaten.

I've eaten at Taverna a dozen times, but only for brunch. I always get the breakfast calzone and it's OK for a beater brunch. For the rest, I probably would not eat there. It's been at least a year though.

Speaking of: walked by Coal Vines yesterday. Notice on the door: looks like someone was behind on their rent and they changed the locks. Oops!

although, Gatlin's BBQ in Houston is ranked up near the best in the state...

it's too far from work though.....

I have to go make a shop visit this afternoon, so I'm waiting to go to lunch....

I would have eaten by now, but this visit came up, so I stayed at work..

probably leave in about 15 minutes, hit the shop, go pick up the kids when I get outta the shop and then eat....
