However, cp-e does have a drone issue with their mid-pipes, at least as reported here, although apparently there's a fix coming.

IMO, this is the holy grail for sound:

You guys are cracking me up. What should it sound like instead of a German exotic ... a Subaru? Easy to criticize, got any examples of what you'd prefer? I'd be glad to critique them.

That Youtube link exhaust sounds like ass. Absolutely no refinement whatsoever.

Refinement! Want refinement? Stick with the stock system, simple as that.

Just bought a Magnaflow from hottexhaust.com...I had a Magnaflow on my '03 Cooper S, and it was simply awesome, so I decided I'd buy the Magnaflow for my 135i. It is significantly louder than stock. The one YouTube video on the net is not a good representation of the sound. If I had a means to record a better video, I would. The Magnaflow is much deeper and about half again as loud as stock. I'm hoping it mellows a little when I get some mileage on it-my last one did. Can't say I'm totally sold on it, but I haven't noticed any drone.

Yes, cp-e is very clean and exotic. Also, maddad full system is clean, even matched with cp-e midpipe sounds refined . . . . post #17 here http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=307003

I would agree cp-e does have a very good sound; I also like the Meisterschaft 135i Touring HP (or even the GT). There also a number of others both here in the US and Europe that sound equally as well or similar. Maddad, while I would rank it up there, is a bit too muted for me. It's all up to personal taste, and besides liking the sound I referenced in the youtube clip doesn't mean I want to live with it, two different things.

coming from a loud exhaust CP-E TBE on my last car...the 135i IMO is a refined car unlike the Subbies, Evo's that all seem to sport that LOUD is better logic....Loud is cool during the day, but after a long day at work, and going out for the night....i used to dislike my exhaust late at night when i wanted some "semi quiet" time on the ride home..Once you put on a LOUD system its even louder at night when you least need it...And DRONE sucks big time, especially in a BMW that SHOULD NOT have it IMO.

As I said, liking something and living with it are two different things entirely. And I would certainly agree that there should be no drone, one of the reasons I'm now considering an axle-back only.

I have the Maddad Axle back and there is definitely NO drone what so ever. This was very important to me. I will probably get the mid pipes come springtime! It is a great quality product!!

Don't be mistaken, Even though I ordered the Maddad Whisper full system, I actually DO like the sound of a LOUD exhaust a bit better. However, there is no way in hell Im going to live with a LOUD system in a daily driver, especially if I'm on a date with a fine upstanding young lady, ha.
