Transmission Fluid?
Hey, guys. For my new to me 2012 6MT 135i, living in hot hot Georgia, just daily driving, what do you recommend for transmission fluid? I bought two quarts of the below back in January when I got the car, and now I can't remember why. May have just gotten them in a rush one day while I had other things on my mind, now I'm not sure if it's the right one. I'm going to swap it out myself this week or next.
Think this will be okay, or is there something else better? Trying to extend the life of my trans, as the previous owner did thrash it a bit. At 97k miles now, last change was 80k, but I don't know what he put in there. and I want a fresh start on good fluid. Red Line (50204) SAE 75W80 API GL-4 Manual Transmission and Transaxle Lubricant |

Your best bet, recommended by various sources is Redline MTL . Their D4 and D6 are often recommended but especially in your warm climate the slightly thicker MTL is the better lubricant. Also has the reputation as very good for the synchros.

I've been using AMSOIL Manual Synchromesh Transmission Fluid 5W-30 with great results on several BMWs. I like it better than Redline MTL as I think the shifting is smoother and appears to get smoother over time.

I used MTL in my first change and D4 in my most recent one. MTL is slightly thicker and the transmission feels a bit smoother. But it is also a tad slower to shift when the weather is cool. D4 makes the transmission feel more mechanical, like you can feel the gears engaging. I think I like the MTL a little better but it depends on how you like it to feel.
I live in SC, so similar weather although a bit cooler on average.
