Brakes and Weight Distribution
2 questions...
wondering, other than the giant 135i brakes that may or may not make it to North America, what are the brake disc sizes? also will weight distribution be close to 50/50 like 3-series? I don't remember hearing this "officially"? |

don't know about the brake disc size, but the weight distibution should be 50/50
Check bmw's microsite http://content.bmwusa.com/microsite/...e=1SERIESFVVIS

your right; has 50/50 weight distribution per the microsite - thanks
I'm curious if the brakes will be similar to the 3-series, I'm guessing they probably will. So the 128i will probably have equal size rotors. My preference would be bigger brakes in the front. |

If they screw us out of the Brembo multi-piston brakes after touting them all these months, I am going to be pissed off!

I think I'm going to get upset and start complaining about nothing... and of you guys care to join me..? Oh, nm! Who start this sh!t..? Is there any indication from any source that says the 1 seies coupe won't have 6-piston Brembos up front..? When in fact BMW engineers have publicly said so on numerous occasions..? -Garrett |

the brakes will be excellent... no worries there.
would it be too much to ask that the bleeding nipples be on the outer half of the caliper (like on many bbk's)? bleeding brakes without having to remove the wheel FTW! |

6 pistons is official, check the microsite, they have a blurb on the brakes
"And for the first time ever, the 135i 6-piston performance powerhouse front disc calipers are painted and feature BMW badging." No idea if they are brembos but ill take it. |

Fronts - 6 Piston - 338mm x 26mm = 13.31 inches
Rears - 2 Piston - 324mm x 22mm = 12.75 inches Quote:
Frankly i think the stock calipers will do just fine for my purposes(DD,autox, mild road course) Some proper cooling ducts Slotted cryo disks Proper pads Motul fluid and SS lines... Yup just fine for me... |

If you've never had Brembos, you might not miss them. But, you can put the best brake fluid and steel lines you like and you will still not approach the excellent feel and modulation of Brembos.' I've had Brembos on 5 cars and 1-piston sliding calipers do not come close,a s much as you may like to think it doesn't matter.

While this is certainly correct, it applies to any well-designed monoblock caliper. Certainly Alcon and Stoptech make brakes that are as good or better than Brembo's offerings.

Agreed (though Brembo makes some KILLER racing brakes that are not seen on street cars)! AP makes a fine system too...

Perhaps this is a really dumb question and although I dont have a hi post count I promise I am no a noob and have read on this board for some time now. But if we do end up getting the 6 pot brakes (im keeping my fingers crossed) are they being manufacutered through Brembo? I was unaware that BMW was outsourcing this job to Brembo, that makes this car that much better! Is this true?!?!

I didn't say anything about how much it matters. I am sorry for the miscommunication but I am not talking about 1-piston sliding calipers either.. I am talking about fixed 6 pot BMW and 6 pot Brembos. To me Brembo is just a brand of brakes(not king of brakes). If it ever gets to the point where the 135i becomes a dedicated track mule then maybe I would do a little more research...(ie: Get in cars with different BBK's) |
