pinion seal leak
As stated in the title the seal started to go at 28k in the past few weeks. Last time I was under the diff was about a year ago where I removed the drive shaft to drop the tranny but saw no leak. I brought it into bmw to get some work (I painfully pay bmw to do some routine fluid changes for record purposes) and the mechanic who I trust called me notifying me that there was a minor leak. Sure enough when I got home I saw a little diff fluid in my garage. Anyhow it was as a small leak. I looked up the DIY and seems straight forward if you have the correct puller and socket for the pinion nut. But sorry to say laziness got the best of me and since the car was already on the lift I just paid for it. Not cheap. Got robbed. So moving forward start looking at your diff more often since these cars are no longer that new.
