Electrical system failure warning

On my way home yesterday I got a brief warning something along the lines of "Electrical System (Failure/Fault/Problem - i forget the exact word) - Continued driving not possible, blah blah blah"

It only lasted about 3 seconds and went away with no residual trace.
I don't have a code reader at the moment.

My guess is that my battery may be on its way out (2012 build on original battery).
Could that cause such a warning?

Man lots of posts about this lately, here's a copypasta of another post I made.

"Definitely get the battery tested ASAP and stop driving it, likely will cause bigger issues whether it's just the battery now or not.

Nearly any dealership or store will do a free battery test. If you need a new one, check out this thread I wrote on how to install/code the battery yourself to save some money.

Some or all 1-Series had a battery cable recall. If you didn't get it done there's a chance it's related.
