Yes both times. I did it the first time than a seasoned bmw mech did it the 2nd time. Now I'm making sure it don't happen again

The latest OFHG and water pump were fitted by my NEW mechanic. I think that you are correct about the installation error, I was feeling that Paul was out of his depth with this car which is why I changed workshops. The previous 2 water pumps were both leaking from between the main housing and the black plastic housing, installation error or manufacturing defect, who knows?

The father and son team behind RX Automotive here in Brisbane live, breathe and race BMW's. The business is held in high regard by fellow members of the BMW Club of Queensland and is now my go-to workshop.

I'm putting this run of bad luck behind me and am looking forward to many more km's behind the wheel of my awesome car.

With all due respect, is this absolutely necessary? , I am a turbocharged virgin after all. After a cold start-up I can drive sedately for close to 10 minutes before the oil temperature needle even moves. I can only inagine that a cool-down will take ages as these engines give off insane levels of heat. My garage is like an oven 1 hour+ after shutting down.

Coolant wise, I wish we had a temp guage. All cars, no matter how mundane, should have at least coolant temperature and oil pressure guages. Upon sale, the car did come with a Cobb Accessport. Maybe I could look into this for some extra guages. It is obsolete now, but still good for basic diagnostics.

The 1er brought the family to a corn maze. It's always a surprise how much junk can be in the 1er's trunk!

Oil temps should drop back to gauge middle pretty fast. That's as cool as they'll get once rising above that until the engine is turned off.

If you drove it hard and got some elevated oil temps it's good practice to drive easy for a bit to get everything back to normal temps before putting it away.

VERY wise advice here; also, if it's really a hot day, consider raising the hood [bonnet?] to let heat escape once you're home.

Yep, top front and the back/side bolts broken off. No idea what happened to the lower front bolt. Last folks to touch it were the german specialty shop that did my oil pan gasket back in early 2018.

Should be able to get em out I think, but worst case is pulling the oil pan and either having the local machine shop get em out or pick up one of the used ones out there for sale...

Still can't believe there were no symptoms! You'd think there would be rattling and all kinds of craziness going on while all this was happening!

Ah well. New OE 135is engine and trans mounts coming, new power steering bolts & pulley, new serp belt and idler & tensioner pulleys, a new radiator and even new silicone hoses for the IC so I can clean up the install while I'm all up in there...

Hoping I won't need to order an oil pan gasket

Which style did you go with and where did you mount it? I have the vent mount and loved it, minus blocking the vent. Took it off a few weeks ago cause I was worried about the heat affecting my phone.

Item 853523, the vent mount and Item 711013 Adjustable iPhone Holder for the mount. It's a pretty big block in the way of the venting there, so I figured heat wouldn't be a huge issue. The phone has pretty good heat protection anyways, so I'm not worried.

I mounted it where they show/recommend. It's been great so far.

No worries there. I rarely drive it anywhere near hard, other than an deserted back road on a sunday drive. I have rarely seen the oil temp guage go over halfway (120c/248f), either my oil cooler is very efficient or I am a wussy driver lol.

Thanks very much for the advice, it's all food for thought.

It really shouldn't go over the middle unless you're tracking it. Takes a lot of high RPM driving to heat oil up.

Finally fixed my turbo feed line that was leaking. 1 o-ring totally crushed, the other was ok. 1 turbo return line gasket was slowly gushing. All fixed and leak free now.
Its amazing how many hours of taking stuff off the car and back on the car to fix a 10 cent o-ring.
Meth kit just arrived very late, didn't have any time left to put it in. Maybe next week

Have heard the gains are worth it...
Not to mention it cleans up carbon deposits...
Helps the car run better, healthier!

Will I be running Ethanol all the time? No...
I'm gonna have two tunes I'm happy with...
93 tune and Ethanol tune and be done with horsepower hunting...
Then off to visual mods...

IIRC the waterpump still runs if you turn off the car prematurely (with elevated colling temps) after a hard drive and this can significantly reduce its life if it runs with the motor shut off.

Why new fuel lines? Our cars run e85 on stock fuel lines all the time.
