low135 Yeah, ECS may be the devil incarnate... don't much care, I'll get over it.

FWIW, there are lots of folks running ECS 2 pc rotors with no problem. I have several..., erm, well..., minutes on them...., and not really surprisingly these are better than my OE 2 piece rotors with 102k. As you would expect.

If they do anything entertaining I'll be sure to share, otherwise presume all is awesome

Nope- they're labeled for the side, and the vanes are directional making it really easy to see the orientation.

And, fwiw, they match the installed pics from the site too (which I looked up to double check cause I thought they looked backwards too)

Besides, it makes no difference which direction the holes & slots lean, it's all about the directional vanes.

Quote:
It is not possible to tell if a drilled rotor is installed properly, simply by observing the drill pattern. Different manufacturers use different patterns with spiral "arms" that appear to lean in either direction, regardless of the internal cooling fin orientation. For example, StopTech AeroRotors, used on their big brake kits, have a drill pattern that appears to lean to the front of the car. Porsche OEM rotors have a drill pattern that appears to lean to the back of the car. In both cases, the internal cooling fins are properly oriented, leaning backwards. But the drill pattern is opposite. This is why Porsche mechanics often install StopTech big brake kit rotors backwards, despite the big "L" and "R" stickers on the rotors! They're relying on the drill pattern, rather than the direction of the internal cooling vanes.

Thanks for clarifying. I was under the impression that hole pattern was universally one direction only because BMW has it that way.

I installed the trunk. Definitely a two person job, but I was able to do it alone. As long as you take the time to do it slowly & plan ahead it's doable.

Gave it a good bath and took a few pictures. On memorial day it'll have been 5 years of owning this car!!

Bought it with 79k miles on it, and now has 164k. Never been stranded on the side of the road thankfully. Have had a few issues but nothing I couldn't manage.

I didn't make it a month before binning the horribly dusty OEM BMW pads in favor of Akebonos on my e88.

Dunno if they have them in BMW sizes, but I tried the new TRW ceramic pads on my Volvo. They really do combine the cold bite of the dusty factory pad with the dust-free nature of the Akebonos. No idea how they would hold up on a track, the not-so-mighty non-turbo 5 in the Swedish Sofa likes things "slow and steady".

Can you specify exactly what you've heard. I'm not questioning your experience but these types of posts spread like wildfire on this forum. All it takes is one person to say something negative about a product and next thing you know you have 20 threads popping up asking "Are X brand's rotors any good?"

Fitment issues, sheered bolts, arrived warped, etc. I've seen major failures with everything ECS branded. They don't make anything themselves and rely on Alibaba type suppliers. They propose a product and take the lowest bidder. ECS just does so much business the bad doesn't affect them. Aside from their already shameful business practices, I wouldn't run a critical mechanical part branded ECS. I've seen dozens of failures of these rotors across a handful of platforms.

Something simple but i snapped an ecs magnetic oil pan drain plug. Put in with normal torque. First time i took it off i was under my car with a drill trying to get it out. BTW nothing was stuck to the magnet and i did have metal shavings in my oil pan

Yeah that's a common failure for them. There's a massive FB group I've been in for years that people post ECS failures in. Their branded products are bottom of the barrel in materials and workmanship. Ethical issues with the company aside, I'd never buy one of their branded products as it comes with totally unknown quality

Replaced HPFP.

Alerted of failing HPFP by limp mode at WOT, but thankfully was not stranded on the side of the road. Logged fuel rail pressure at a feeble 700 psi, now I'm back to peak 2400. The old pump lasted 22.5k miles.

Also replaced 12 yr old throttle body and intake manifold gaskets. They were surprisingly pliable for their age.

Good suggestion!

I also missed all the opportunities to do something clever with the trip odometer. The only planning was to make sure 1) I wasn't on the highway when it turned over, and 2) my wife wasn't with me. With these two accomplished I could take my time to park on a side road and take pictures.

Up until I bought its 2009 predecessor, I never kept a car more than 3 years because I would become dissatisfied with it* (I'm 66). I've now driven the "same" car for 12 years and I don't think I'll ever sell it. There's a BEV in my future somewhere but I will still keep the 128. Someone has to have a car that my grandchildren can learn to drive stick in!

* excludes my 1983 Mazda RX-7 GSL. My wife was pregnant with our first child less than a year after I bought the car.
